"Love is not for everybody"
The recording is out!
Watch our graduate roundtable "Talking Back: bell hooks and Her impact on Our work" host by the Gender and Sexualities Studies Institute and Sociology Department at The New School for Social Research.

We talked about radical love, children libération, academia as a violent space, radical Black Feminist thought, pain and hurt, movie and Black women gaze and much more. As Chrystel said, this conversation showed how we can acknowledge the impact, legacy and brilliance of a public intellectual, scholar and thinker while avoiding hagiography.

Was a pleasure to be in conversation with Breya Johnson (Writer, organizer and cultural worker) and my fellows Ph.D candidates: Chrystel Oloukoï (African and African American Studies / Harvard University), Christelle Ringuet (Cinema and media/ Univ. Paris 8) and Rebecca A. Wilcox (Religion & Society/ Princeton Theological Seminary).

The past 22 months have felt like the longest year ever. I've laughed more genuine laughs, cried more earnest tears, moved with more intention, and experienced more growth than I ever have in this life. Been broken down and built back up over and over again.

In all that, it's a blessing to know, on a soul level, that you're not walking alone. Even when you've been conditioned to feel that. Even when every other voice in your head and in your ear is trying to convince you of the same.

Every time I thought I had a plan, life shifted. I'm grateful it shifted me toward you. And gave me a new life.

You're beautiful, captivating, selfless to a fault, and more powerful than you know. It's already felt in every space you enter, but I don't care if the rest of the world ever catches up to knowing. Because you deserve better than anything this world can offer.

You're part of my purpose here. And my only desire is, even in my imperfection, that I'm a worthy enough vessel to complement your journey in this lifetime and beyond.

With Love. Every step of the way.
