CIRCULAR ECONOMY SCHOOL - THE FILM 🍿 Popcorn alert!🍿 Earlier this year we ran the first iteration of the Circular Economy School in Park Royal, north-west London. We’ve now made a beautiful film about it (with the help of the brilliant @lavandafilmsuk) - and you can watch it! The link is in the bio. The Circular Economy School is a new programme in Park Royal, where local young people learn how to make sustainable products from waste materials - and gain the real skills they need for careers in the circular economy. Over three months in 2026, a group of ten 17-21 year olds from the boroughs of Brent, Ealing and Hammersmith and Fulham were paid London Living Wage to learn every aspect of sustainable production. The young people designed and produced three new products (and the stall to sell them from), and sold them at a two day long market event, as part of London Craft Week 2026. The school was run by Absolute Beginners, @_recollective_ and @rescuedclay.project and was funded by the Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation. I've had a fascinating few days at Brick Fields near St Austell at the Nomdic Craft Circus, "End of Clays" extravaganza. Saturday night we fired the ceramic work in a wood fired kiln. Art. Experimental Clay plaster panels in the toilet. Rammed cob wall. I can't claim any credit, I just liked it. A panel I made with porcelain clay from St Austell's clay pits and very fine aggregate sived down from locally available qwartz. Natural clay plaster base coats, and experimental top coats in patches. A detailed record of each of the clay plaster experiments. Brick production went well. These were hand made from Cornish clay and local aggregate. A rammed earth column made from local materials.

The @restage_org Script (report, plan and roadmap) has officially launched! ♾️ We were thrilled to attend the launch event at the @nationaltheatre Buffini Chao Terrace yesterday, along with supporters, funders, and ReStage’s founding partners and collective. The report is the product of two and a half years of collaborative R&D, calling for shared national infrastructure for circular stage and screen production. ♻️ It was incredibly exciting to be a small part of this work through the collective, as well as through our Head of Strategic Growth and ReStage steering group member Ella Nevill. As well as sharing some lovely images from the event, courtesy of @jamesojenkins, we've also shared some of our highlights from the report itself. These include the fantastic GetSetCymru project (which we are digital partners of), pictures of @camaassetstore , one of the brilliant collaborative R&D workshops held at @gardenstudioshq, and of course our first ever report credits! 📸✅ Huge congrats to Sara Turnbull, lucy siegle, Sherry Dobbin, National Theatre, @aceagrams, @mayorofldn, @workwildltd, the Steering Group, researchers, technical reviewers, and every single brilliant person and organisation who invested their time and expertise into getting this research out into the world. 🤝💓

Circular Economy School MARKET TOMORROW! This weekend, we’re setting up the Circular Economy School market stall at @standardmarketnw10 - and it’s going to look something like this! Come down on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th May, from 11-4. See the market stall, touch the products we’ve been making - and buy them! The stall has been designed by Clementine Krokatsis, Geetasree Thakur and Sweetsan Manijam, in workshops led by Francesca Rausa from @_recollective_. It’s made with the material that Recollective have collected - timber and sheet materials like ply and OSB - which would otherwise have been incinerated. The design was inspired by the young people wanting to create a welcoming space - a circular design (insert your own joke). The young people then learnt to use chop-saws, circular saws, Japanese pull-saws and orbital sanders, to bring the design to life. This animation was directed by Clementine Krokatsis. Thanks to Freya Bruce for the film!

In this video, Tom James, director of Absolute Beginners, talks about the ideas behind the school, - and why you (yes you) should come down this weekend and support it. We’re running a market stall at @standardmarketnw10, this Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th May, on Standard Road, Park Royal, London, NW10 6EX - from 11AM-4PM each day. You’ll be able to see the products we’ve made, talk to the young people who’ve made them - and buy the products! Plus, 50% of all sales this weekend will be going directly to the young people - on top of the London Living Wage they’ve already been paid. A brilliant community effort at Newquay Orchard last week! We were joined by the on-site student groups, volunteers and the public to audit the existing structure of Kreft Maker Space, as well as an impressive haul of loose timber left in the workshops from previous projects. The audit will form a virtual inventory of materials for reuse, which we will work with in the concept design phase, coming up next.
