“I read a lot of scripts, and usually the most interesting ones, to me, are in the horror space…I find they have the most interesting characters and the most interesting stories. In this genre, you can really push the boundaries,” shares Maika Monroe, who has established herself as reigning horror film royalty after appearing in some of the most prominent films of the last decade. Monroe will soon reprise her role as Jay in 2014’s cult classic ‘It Follows’ in ‘They Follow,’ slated to go into production starting in early 2026.

Lauren Halsey has changed the way that community building and social practice can intersect with fine art production. Not just a trailblazer in Los Angeles, this blueprint and vision has stretched from the streets of her hometown to the roof of The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

In our story with Halsey in The Unibrow Issue 01, Shaquille Heath (@_shaqy) writes, “In the end, Halsey’s practice resists separation—between art and life, between monument and meal. Everything is entangled, and necessarily so. The park and community center are not endpoints, but continuations—living, growing embodiments of what happens when creativity and vision meet power and responsibility. These are spaces where sculpture becomes structure, where form follows care, and where a blueprint for the future is rendered not just in concrete and cladding, but in fruit trees, game boards, and a place to rest your head. It’s been 13 years since writer Shaquille Heath stepped foot in a church. But as a Black ex-Mormon, the experience of watching Layla Taylor on ‘The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives’ has been equal parts fascinating and heartbreaking.

“This hugely popular show may be the first time I’ve seen traces of my own life reflected onscreen,” she writes. “It took me three days to get through the pilot on Hulu—not because it was bad, but because every frame brought up feelings that I’d buried years ago.” At the link in bio, @_shaqy reflects on her own upbringing as a Black Utahn in LDS — and the memories that have since resurfaced while watching Layla on the megahit series.
