🌎 My August poem for #firstlinepoets
Thank you to @_sunayana.dash for the lines "Would you be my art?" and "in the cursive letters of my poetry." ❤️

Currency

Would you be my art?
I ask each beautiful thing I see,
hoping to claim it as my own,
wrap it in the cursive letters of my poetry,
the best form of currency,
the method in which I exchange
one reality for another.
I can't buy everything that's trending,
can't satisfy every whim
from a magical vending machine,
but I can capture what I want in writing,
own the world and everything in it
pressed in the pages
of a weather-stained notebook.
The universe is mine for the taking
if I know where to look.

Some losses do not arrive with funerals.
They arrive quietly,
taking pieces of us until even
our own reflection feels unfamiliar.

This poem begins with a line kindly shared by @_sunayana.dash:
I thought I died years ago.

Thank you, Sunayana, for your generosity
and for writing words that inspire
others to create. If you haven't visited @_sunayana.dash yet,
I encourage you to do so.

She is a beautifully gifted writer
whose work deserves to be
read and appreciated.

🌍 *The Smaller Wish*

What do you ask for, once you have stopped asking for everything?

The line that stuck with me was "A drop fo time falls on my palm". So here's my May @firstlinepoets piece inspired by the first line and work of @_sunayana.dash and @pearls_poetry_n_more

I saw grief on my doorstep
