I enjoyed writing as an escape when I was a young lady. I stopped after a traumatic event. A few months ago, I picked up my pen again. @enduring812

Most of my life, I’ve been culturally trained to look at Fridays as a relief — the finally end of an always long week. Lately, I’m trying to slow things down. I don’t want to live like I’m rushing through my life simply because the nine-to-five can be such a drag. I want to savor each day.

That being said, if I can be honest, this week was difficult. For personal and [gestures toward everything] other reasons, there’s been quite a few times when I just wanted to get through things instead of sit with them. Quite a few times when I wasn’t entirely sure how I was going to get through a thing, to the point that I wanted to speed time so I could just be through it.

But what if I didn’t try to force through the tough moments, days, and weeks? What if I could try to pause, in the moment, and remember that during difficult times, I grow stronger, and I have a chance to do the work that moves the needle on making myself and my community stronger as well.

As artists, we have a special role to play. In the words of Toni Morrison, “This is precisely the time when artists go to work. There is no time for despair, no place for self-pity, no need for silence, no room for fear. We speak, we write, we do language. That is how civilizations heal.” But in order to create, we must be able to be still and perceptive, open and curious, and most of all — safe and affirmed. That’s the space we’ve worked to create on Sunday.

And that’s why I’m looking forward to this event. On the one hand, I’m a little stressed bc there’s still prep to do, and I also have an event tomorrow that I want to be truly present for. But most of me is enjoying the fact that we’re about to do this — to gather as a community and appreciate the creativity and humanity all around us.

And it’s been such a joy to work with this team — each of us dedicated in our own ways to contributing not only to a better future, but a better now — today. I want this joy to linger, to last, just knowing that we’ve worked to create something special. And we hope that the time we spend together on Sunday is as meaningful for everyone as it has been for us. We hope to see you there!

Performing Lasagna, (with subtitles) my new single, to the largest crowd I've ever performed for, with the dream team!

On Saturday, @sirdominiquejordan @thewritepan @thesoulpapi @_real_lituation_ @_survivingwithwords and I got to open for @musiqsoulchild in Harrisburg PA! Special thanks to @717live_ for putting together an incredible festival for the city of Harrisburg and for inviting us to perform!

I don't usually get nervous performing in front of crowds if I'm making beats or playing instruments, but rapping in front of hundreds of people was definitely the most nervous I've been in a long time. Special thanks to my friends for the encouragement, pep talks, and hyping me up on stage to give me the confidence to go for it! The whole set was magical, but having some of my favorite emcees backing me up on my own verse over an insane sound system (thanks @assortedstudios) was an incredible experience!
