Today I was at @hallschoolofficial servicing and repairing their press. The bed required some onsite improvised panel beating flattening to bring it to printable again. Unfortunately the design with the soft wooden bed and thin metal top is always problematic. But managed to get it printing again! The afternoon was proffessional development time, I went through Drypoint on plastic, Relief printing with the press and screenprinting with the art staff. With some bits to order like screen hinge clamps and scrim, the printmaking offer is now reinvigorated and confidence is built ready for more exploration. Fun fact: Jamie T went to this school.

This week I visited @bristol.schoolofart @sgs_college to service their presses. The large polymetaal etching press was discovered to be missing a parallel key which would have caused all sorts of damage had it not been caught , it’s now replaced, so that was a big win! I then worked through the rest of the presses, also doing some print tests and setting up an Adana Quarto for Lino, which was a bit of fun and games! And checked over the Albion press for the correct packing for wood engraving. Handy that the technician is @fionahprints so we had a lovely block to test with! And if all of this wasn’t exciting enough, I was treated to a fire evacuation drill yesterday!

This week I was at @uwebristol @uwe_print servicing their etching and lithography presses in their specialist rooms, including 3 offset presses and a direct lithography press and 3 Rochat etching presses, I also looked at one of their Albions that had an issue with the strap. It was wonderful being there at the start of the academic year, with new excited students and users of the spaces. Thanks to everyone I shared spaces with this week. @bengoodman_uk @demiinsall @kei.wing._.hui @ianchamberlainartist @gillian_garnica and others I can’t find or tag on insta!

Today I was the St George’s Academy, Sleaford (@stga_official) to fix up their small fleet of presses , these presses are normally based in different classrooms and were all a bit faulty in different ways! To the point where none of them were printing and panic had set in because printmaking is very much part of their curriculum- now they’re all back up and running again. They said they’d had them for over 10 years so they’ve lasted well in the school environment, always the most hardcore of environments for little presses!

This week I have been at @uniofglos in their print room. Just off the Illustration studio is a wonderful printmaking space. Used by students across the university. The presses had been in servicing limbo for a good many years so it was satisfying to make them back to their best again! Some big differences felt this week. Presses serviced included Etching presses, Direct Litho Press and Offset press, proofing presses and Iron hand presses. Also attached the feed board to the Farley for easy printing. Thanks to technician @tonbo_prints for such a warm welcome. It felt like a very welcoming print room with a vast array of presses and techniques possible.

Today I was servicing at @bnuni_ with unfortunately less presses than last time as they have been consolidating their printmaking offer. But still a lovely array of presses. In a spacious print room sharing space with textiles screenprinting and knitting machines! And other process rooms off… doors read , washout, dye, acid etc. how curious it must seem to someone alien to this environment!

Somehow the handle had broken off this press at @birmingham_school_of_art but not anymore!!!! All fixed and ready for the students return. I’ve never seen a handle break like this, certainly unusual perhaps someone had perched on it! I nipped back today to fit it.

I blinked and July disappeared between my social media fingers in a puff of R&D smoke, with soooo much great stuff happening (that I really should be shouting a bit more about 📣)

As part of my @celfcymruarts Create Award I have quietly been working with incredible mentors, who are supporting me to develop my knowledge and skills in letterpress for bilingual application 📝

The utterly BRILLIANT, patient and funny @_theomiller has given me wings to fly and refine my skills on my Adana 8 x 5, while introducing me to other learned colleagues within the print making community 💘

I travelled to see the utterly AMAZING Ellen @nomadletterpress who kindly let me observe and document the production casting of type from start to finish. A day of awe and pure magic ✨

The equally AMAZING @kelseyjadephotos documented our experience through her exquisite photography, allowing me another lense from which to pause, review and appreciate the possiblities and progression of my work and the work that has yet to be ✨

I feel incredibly lucky to have been awarded this time and space to evolve my ideas and the technical application of Welsh language in tandem with my botanical paper works 🌼

I am silly excited to be working with SUPERSTAR literary women @potter_poet and @jollyjewels to develop my creative confidence in writing and its place within my practice ✨

And somewhere in between it all, I am juggling the summer like many many other parents, with sandy toes and pockets full of treasures from our adventures between the bits in-between ✨

Feeling very grateful indeed 🥹💘

Diolch @celfcymruarts @_theomiller @nomadletterpress @potter_poet @jollyjewels 💘

Servicing at @jags_art @jagsschool today was a real joy, a great printmaking room. Two Art equipment etching presses , a polymetaal etching press and a New Albion Press. James Allen’s Girl School was founded in 1741, it is the second oldest independent girls’ school in Great Britain! Great to see printmaking so well represented in the teaching of art at the school.
