T H E U L T I M A T E foodie day trip from Exeter? I think Bath might just be it...

You might think Exeter to Bath is a bit far for a day trip, but for someone who’d happily travel three hours for exceptional coffee and pastries, 90 minutes is nothing! Yes, I hold my hand up to this! Sometimes you just have to put the time in for a good croissant.🥐

If you’re looking for a Bath day trip by train from Exeter, here’s how I’d spend it.

Start with coffee and pastries at @landracebakery , or head to @_morso_bakery if you’re after brilliant vegan bakes. Wander Bath’s beautiful independent streets, popping into the boutiques and shops that make this city such a joy to explore.

When it’s time for a drink, @wolf_wine and @_thesickle are both excellent (or visit both - you’ve got time!).

For brunch, @samesamebutdifferent , @kingsmeadkitchenbath and @greenrocketcafe all deserve a spot on your list. Then if you’re staying into the evening, you can’t go wrong with @solinapasta @magaripasta , @oakrestaurantbath or @root_bath for one seriously memorable meal.

This itinerary is proof that one train journey can lead to an entire day of incredible independent food, coffee, shopping and wine.

Ah @unwinsbrewery - Tucked into a railway arch under Bristol TM, Tom Unwin (formerly head brewer at New Bristol Brewery) has set up something really special. I’d had his beers at @_thesickle but to be here and work my way through the tap list was a journey. Not to overegg the omelette but Tom and his gang clearly know exactly what they’re doing. Italian pilsner: dangerous, Belgian pale: citric and crunchy delight, Ruby mild: Bruce Bogtrotter’s chocolate cake BODY, and a hazy pale: the open return.
Reachable by train from Edinburgh, Exeter, London, Cardiff, Manchester, Birmingham… honestly there’s no excuse. Get yourself here. Now.

January🧣A month of birthdays, frosty walks and cosy dates. Truthfully, it’s my least favourite month of the year. But found some lovely moments.

1. My favourite place! After such a busy 2025, I’m excited to get back between the pages of (many) books and finally make a dent on my tbr.
2. A busy birthday month kicking off with my child turning one. They grow up so fast 🥹

We recently had a little mini break in gorgeous Bath. We stayed in No.15 Bath by @guesthousehotels (more about that a few posts back!) Sadly, we had to leave early in the morning after our stay but the day before we packed in lots of lovely things. Here are my heartfelt recommendations from our day…

@_thesickle beer cafe and wine bar
@oakrestaurantbath beautiful vegetarian restaurant
@beckfordbottleshop wine merchant serving small plates and drink - The charcuterie and Bath chaps (google it!) were particularly delicious!

We were actually in Bath to go to Candlelight Concert at the Bath Abbey… It was really, really lovely, more about that tomorrow! Look out for that! x x x
