Anyone else feel this when visiting an old home?

Bit of a personal story…

I recently opened up about how bittersweet it felt revisiting Paris. How, since moving to Singapore, all parts of my life have improved and how genuinely happy I am because of it.
But that doesn’t change the fact that Paris holds some of my most important years of growth as an adult. And when you visit an old life, a wave of emotions rushes in, the comfort of familiarity, seeing old friends, and doing it all in the most beautiful city in the world.

Being an expat has a quieter undertone that I rarely see anyone talk about or share. You are always meeting new people, but it also means also having to let go of old versions of life.

But one thing I did realize coming back is that it doesn’t change the memories, the bonds, or how lucky I feel knowing that when we do see each other again, we can pick up where we left off.

A little while ago in my stories, I asked if anyone has heard of the term TCK. And the result that most of you have never even heard of it, wasn't too surprising honestly.
⠀
So I thought I'd share about it, because I'm one and I want more people to learn about it.
I'm a TCK, which means a Third Culture Kid.
⠀
And today I wanna start by sharing about one of the things that a lot of TCK's struggle with. It's the feeling of 'home'.
Where is 'home'?
What's the definition of 'home'?
Is it okay to have a couple of 'homes' and to feel like you don't have a 'home' at the same time?
⠀
For the longest time, I didn't know where 'home' was. Even though my first 16 years of life I lived in one country, I always felt torn. I didn't feel like this was 100% 'home' but at the same time, it was. My friends here in Ukraine that were pure Ukrainians and never moved didn't understand me, and just always told me that this is 'home'. But I knew that for me it was different, I just couldn't pinpoint it.
⠀
Until I learned about being a TCK and how the definition of 'home' is so different for us. The mix of cultures, experiences, people, places, etc. Makes for a very individual understanding/realization of what 'home' means to me.
⠀
This is just a little sneak peek into the TCK topic, I'll try to continue and share more about my journey and thoughts. And hope that it's something that you find interesting and wanna learn more about.
⠀
I would love to hear feedback and questions in the comments.
