July 2009: I came to Berlin to attend Kollaborativ, a gathering of artists. I loved the vibe of the city and could imagine myself living here. A photographer at the conference gave me a critique of my work and suggested that I spend more time with my topics. Almost ten years later, I've lived here 6 years, have had the privilege of spending time on many photographic themes, from exploring my childhood memories in Ireland, to documenting everyday lives of Roma people in the Czech Republic; from making photo and video portraits of musicians in Berlin to witnessing and making stories about people who fled their homes to seek refuge in Europe.
Today I'm working on a documentary film, which really started for me in September 2015. I feel grateful that I live here, to be relearning the meaning of home and doing the work I love. And I'm glad I listened to that photographer ten years ago.
