BF has been shortlisted for the British Association for Sustainable Sport (BASIS) awards in the Innovation Category for our Sustainable Travel Leave policy.

In February this year, BF was accredited as a Sustainable Travel Leave Employer with climate charity @_wearepossible, becoming the first organisation in the sport sector to receive this accreditation.

📣 NEW Green Party aviation policies passed at conference

Are you a member of another political party in the UK and keen to improve their policies? Get in touch at info@safe-landing.org.

Note: as an organisation, Safe Landing is non-party political and we do not support any particular party over another. We will bring our policy proposals, developed with our Safe Landing community, to any political party in the UK, or elsewhere, who is interested in engaging with us.

📣 New Green Party aviation policies voted through at the party conference on Saturday.

Safe Landing’s co-founders George Hibberd and Dan Tipney attended the Green Party conference in Brighton over the weekend. George introduced the new aviation policies for which he has been the lead author of for nearly a year now. We are very excited to hear that those policies were supported by the conference and voted through to become official Green Party policy!

George has been leading a small team of Green Party members, including a couple of Safe Landing members, to draft this policy. Throughout that process they consulted with other policy working groups within the party, aviation policy experts, researchers and trade unions. He also hosted an aviation policy assembly in the summer where Safe Landing community members could give feedback on the policy before it was finalised.

Policies include action on contrails, taxes on the highest emitting passengers, and citizens' and workers' assemblies to feed into industrial policy.

We’re looking for partners who can keep us fixing for longer!!

Almost all of the money needed to run our Fixing Factories comes from a grant from the National Lottery Community Action Fund. As of May 2027 this funding is going to drop. A LOT.

So, we need to find another way to keep our doors open; to keep items out of landfill; and to keep growing.

We've been here since 2022 putting our vision for community repair into practice: a vision of breathing life back into derelict high streets, bringing people together through shared skills, helping communities navigate the rising cost of living through practical support, and, above all, resisting a culture that tells us to throw things away when they could be repaired.

We can’t stop now.

We’re casting the net wide and trying to reach as many people as possible to have the best chance of people who can help us bring Fixing Factories to the next level.

Can you share this post with your network or an individual to help us reach as many people as possible?

If you are reading this and think you can support please contact us via the link in our bio.

#FixingFactory #PartnerWithUs #CommunityRepair Infographic titled "Fixing Factories Annual Impact" highlighting the important work carried out of the last year: over 1200 people engaged annually, more than 1300 kg of waste saved, over 600 items repaired, and 74% of visitors feel more connected to their community.

If you need to encourage your employer to give you more time off for low carbon travel you can check out @_wearepossible as they have a ‘Sustainable Travel Leave’ campaign you can learn more about on their website.

As I said in the video, the train is always the best option or local travel is awesome also. For more ideas on local travel, check out @looknearfirst !

Or if you want to fly in a more climate friendly way, @bum.prints has some awesome resources too!

If you wish to take a flight free pledge, check out @flightfreeuk

Beyond the sustainable tips, my wife @bav_smith and I had an amazing honeymoon. 🙏🙌🥰

We stayed at @koukoumi_hotel_mykonos vegan boutique hotel which was beautiful and the food was next level! 👌😋 (highly recommended)

Heathrow expansion is a climate and economic disaster. It must not go ahead ☝️

✈️ The third runway at Heathrow makes ZERO sense.

Parents for Future joined @carladenyer @_wearepossible, @flightfreeuk, @friends_earth and so many other groups today to say no - not because we’re against progress, but because this isn’t it.

More flights = more emissions, more noise, more pollution for local communities. There are smarter ways to safeguard the economy that don’t lock us into decades of climate damage.

This crisis is getting more critical by the day and it certainly isn’t going to wait for parliamentary committees. Neither should we.

Heathrow expansion = job LOSSES 👆

Alex Chapman, our Head of Economic and Environmental Policy, at the Transport Select Committee yesterday explained that Heathrow expansion will lead to net job losses across the country.

🇬🇧🇸🇪 Two countries just made sustainability actually accessible!

The UK legalized plug-in solar panel kits up to 800 watts that you literally plug into a standard wall socket. No electrician and expensive installation needed.

Why this matters:
⚡️ The kits only cost between £400-£600, available in most retailers (hame-changing for people who couldn’t afford traditional rooftop systems.)
⚡️ It could save households £110 a year
⚡️ It could provide up to 20% of home electricity use

Almost 150,000 certified rooftop solar installations happened in the first six months of 2026. Now plug-in systems could accelerate that even more because they’re cheaper, easier, and accessible to way more people.

Meanwhile, Sweden just announced a ban on forever chemicals (PFAS) starting January 1, 2028. These are the chemicals in your clothes, makeup, cookware, and footwear that don’t break down. Ever. They accumulate in your body and the environment. In fact, PFAS have been found in 97% of American blood tested. And Sweden is banning them from consumer products before the EU even proposes broader restrictions in 2027.

This is what happens when governments actually move instead of wait!

Follow @greenqueenhk for policies that matter.

👨‍🔧 Finlay Asher, Scottish aerospace engineer and think tank lead at Safe Landing, appeared on @timesradio this week to discuss increasing the rate of #privatejet #tax in #Scotland with Hugo Rifkind.

Private jets are among the most carbon-intensive forms of transport: often over 10x more polluting than commercial flights per passenger.

Yet new Scottish 'Air Departure Tax' (ADT) levels are too low to meaningfully impact demand.

We, along with @oxfamscotland, @patrioticmillionairesuk, @_wearepossible and @wellbeingeconomyalliance have called for:

✅ Significantly higher tax rates for private jets
✅ A rising tax trajectory over time
✅ Stronger policies to curb high-emission luxury flying
✅ Supporting zero-carbon flight

Crucially, ADT can do more than raise revenue: it can also help to shape the future of air travel.

⚡ Scotland is well-placed to lead in zero-carbon regional aviation, particularly on Highlands & Islands routes.

With the right policy design, ADT could:

🔵 support early adoption of electric, hybrid or hydrogen aircraft;
🔵 create high-value jobs in engineering, manufacturing and operations;
🔵 position Scotland as a global leader in clean aviation;
🔵 attract new tourists who are excited to try zero-carbon flight.

Aviation can have a sustainable future, but only if policy is designed carefully.

By aligning taxes with emissions, targeting the highest emitters, and supporting zero-carbon innovation, Scotland has a unique opportunity to lead the way.
