With more than 50 public art projects under our belt and many exciting initiatives on the horizon, the Lucie and Larry Nisson Art in Public Program has profoundly transformed Ann Arbor’s landscape. From vibrant murals and unique sculptures to creatively designed planters and charming alleys, we have empowered artists to infuse their creative voices into public spaces over the past decade. Each project not only revitalizes its environment but also provides artists with the opportunity to earn fair compensation while showcasing their talents on a grand scale.

Now, it’s your chance to show your appreciation at next week’s Garden Glass Sale from @nisson_glass_art and @wendybauerbraun, who are generously donating sales that day to the Art in Public program. Stepping into the Nissons’ backyard is like entering a living canvas, where a breathtaking spectrum of colors dances around a stunning waterfall.

Please consider making it out on Sunday, September 27, from 12-5pm at 1227 Lutz. Together, we can help more creative voices flourish.

All good things must come to an end!

After four great seasons, and three Emmy nominations, it’s time to put the “Roundabout” series in park… for now. Thanks to everyone who took a ride and shared their stories.

A BIG shout out to @fox2detroit photojournalist Marcus Myers who made each story feel special!

It is the most beautiful, vital thing for community and liberation to give people their flowers while they are here to receive them. 💐 @ocanational honored six impactful leaders at their 2026 Gala, each of whom have been putting in the work with heart and style. Their gorgeous awards reflected Detroit, AANHPI identities, and our legacies and were done by local artist @a.l.wrk. 🎨

I loved getting a chance to celebrate the legacy my big sister @deepaviyer has already established alongside the work that amazing folks like Senator @stephanielilychang are doing, day in and day out, for our communities.

We are so lucky to be living through this history, too. 🥲

From OCA:
This year’s theme, “Motown Momentum: Igniting New Energy, Inspiring All Generations,” reflects OCA’s commitment to empowering the next generation of leaders while honoring the rich legacy of organizing and resilience rooted in Detroit. From labor movements to cultural innovation, Detroit has long been a city where community power fuels lasting change.

“We are excited to bring the AANHPI community together in Detroit, a city with a long history of social activism and cultural innovation,” said Thu Nguyen, Executive Director of OCA - Asian Pacific American Advocates. “This year’s conference will spotlight leadership, activism, and the critical role of intergenerational partnerships in shaping a vibrant future.”

We met with @semcog1 at their office on July 21st with planners and reps from Birmingham, Farmington, Brighton, West Bloomfield, and across the region — then walked them onto the People Mover.

Led by our Program Director, Bethany J. Howard, “City Walls: Transforming Detroit Through Public Art” moved from presentation to pavement fast. Rosa Parks mural watching over downtown.

Every wall reverse engineered with the people who live around it: residents, block clubs, neighborhood stakeholders, so the art reflects the block, not somebody’s idea of it.

Detroit isn’t a blank canvas. It’s alive. It already has a story. The region just got to see it up close.

@detroitasiancollective and @chifanle.chifanle are very excited for a Zongzi Wrapping Experience!

$55 ticket per person
Limited spots
Interested? Please fill out the form and we will contact you with confirmation and payment details.
https://forms.gle/ULQo7eyGWToC7AfQA

Chi Fan Le will also have a mini food pop up (no RSVP needed).

Zongzi is a traditional Chinese food eaten during Dragon Boat Festival. It’s a sticky rice, dumpling, carefully wrapped with bamboo leaves, secured with a cotton string. This is a very laborious food with a lot of preparation of each component. We will guide you step by step and provide all of the ingredients for you to wrap zongzi and we will cook them (it takes a couple of hours!) so you’ll want to stick around so you can enjoy your creation.

Artist Tony Lee @a.l.wrk will be creating a special zine about Zongzi that everyone will be able to take home!

Sunday, July 12, 2026
2–6pm
At Brewery Faisan

There will be a pork or vegan option for you to wrap (sorry, no gluten-free).
