A lovely spot of news that our short Growing Still joins the incredible films and tv shows as a finalist at this year’s @newzealandscreenawards ! Thanks as always to the team who made this happen! A huge effort from start to finish. To all our supporters, sponsors and the festivals that have shown it around the world this far, and to @nzfilm for funding it via Catalyst, thank you thank you thank you. (PS that’s not AI content meta, it’s Paul’s gorgeous moth and some fine photoshop from Alyx…)

We’re thrilled to announce Growing Still is continuing its festival journey. Screening at Finding Bright Film Festival in Arlington MA in the US.

@findingbrightfilmfest is known for celebrating artistic risk, handmade craft, and unorthodox, immersive storytelling. So we’re delighted to be part of this!

Two years of client work, and one of my favourite projects wasn't for a client at all.
Last year, our all-female crew, Magic Suitcase, competed in the 48 Hour Film Festival — where you write, shoot, and edit an entire short film in 48 hours, no exceptions.
We came 2nd in our Auckland heat, picked up multiple award nominations, and I was nominated for Best Editing at the Auckland finals.
It's a different kind of pressure to client work — no brief, no client sign-off, just a team and a strict deadline — and honestly one of the best reminders of why I love what I do.
Thanks to Co-Writer/Directors Michele Powles & Anna Rose Duckworth, incredible DOP Nina Wells, and the whole dedicated cast and crew for a fun weekend of chaos and collaboration making this film: https://pinata.co.nz/project/48hr-film-festival.

The wait is over.

The judging is complete, and we're excited to announce the 10 finalists for Future Frames: NZ.

Throughout this competition we've seen filmmakers embrace the steep learning curve that comes with exploring new creative tools. Teams have taken part in workshops, shared knowledge, supported one another and discovered how AI can work alongside traditional filmmaking craft.

To everyone who entered: thank you. Learning a new tool while creating a film is no small challenge, and sharing your work for judging takes courage. Every film submitted has contributed to an exciting conversation about the future of filmmaking in Aotearoa, and it's been inspiring to see so many creatives embrace the journey together.

Congratulations to our finalists!

Join us this Friday at 3:00pm during the AI in Evidence session at BSS, where we'll reveal the three winning films and celebrate the incredible work being created by New Zealand's next generation of hybrid filmmakers.
