“Herken jij deze pubers?” 😜

❤️ Cinema De Vlugt moet bijven!

Help jij mee? Gun Nieuw-West meer film en doneer. ❤️ team Cinema De Vlugt

I'm very happy that my INDIGO artwork is part of the exhibition, FINDING NATURAL BEAUTY IN NORTH, Sept 13th to Oct 15th, 2023, Treehouse NDSM, Amsterdam North.
🌐
The exhibition Art Park seeks to reflect on the meaning of the presence (or absence) of Nature in the city. Why is it important to include and preserve green spaces inside the city? In what aspect is the cohabitation and protection of other species essential for human life and survival? What can we learn from Nature?
🌐
“‘INDIGO’ is made from dry Japanese indigo leaves (Persicaria Tinctoria) grown in Amsterdam North by Valentin Bakardjiev. The dry leaves still full of strong pigment embody the duality of our planet: tough but at the same time vulnerable to the intensive extraction we put it through. Valentin brings awareness to the importance of sustainability and the interconnection between the Earth and us.”

"Do you have any pets?"

If the answer is yes, usually the following sentence is:

I have a...
🐶 dog
🐈 cat
🐹 hamster
🐰 rabbit
🐠 fish
or snake 🐍 and tarantula 🕷 for those who like exotic animals.

Well, I got worms. 🪱🪱
And nope, not just because of the lack of space in my tiny apartment in Amsterdam, but just because a few months ago I became a "worm hotelier".🏨

❔ What does this mean?
Worm hotels are composting containers generally about two metres high. They host several kilos of tiger worms, earthworms, red dung worms and food waste from around hundreds of households in Amsterdam alone!
As a "worm hotelier", I take care of the room service for my worms.🛎
They have a very refined taste for #foodwaste and in exchange, they give new life to my apple cores and eggshells as a nutrient-rich fertiliser for my plants.

Unfortunately, organic waste separation is not yet a standard for waste collection in some municipalities in the Netherlands — massive amounts of compostable material end up in the waste bin every day.
Worm hotels are everything urban composting should be: easy to use, accessible, compact, and community-oriented. 🤲

You get to hang out with wonderful people in your community and even avoid food waste, what else?
