Had the day off so my Mom and I visited the DIARY OF A MAD BLACK MAN exhibit down at the Frederick Douglass Museum in Fells Point which was one of the major ports during the slave trade. The exhibit is a vibrant and glorious display of Blackness: our history, our present and our future. Even though some of the works made me sad, the masterpieces filled me with pride and reinvigorated my own creative spirit. We, too, sing America. Thank you @aaronmaybin for the enlightenment and inspiration. #happyblackhistorymonth #art

BALTIMORE — Two former @nfl players from different teams with Maryland roots have come together with one purpose: to help the kids of Baltimore.

Former NFL linebacker, Aaron Maybin retired in 2013 to follow his artistic aspirations. Even though his artistic career took off shortly after, Maybin wished to inspire real change in Black communities. So, he began teaching creative arts in underfunded public schools. Taking it a step further, Maybin raised more than $90,000 to help purchase heating systems for Baltimore public schools. Not just that, he’s written two books, a workbook, and designed multiple art pieces that reflect the lives of the kids reading them.

It’s refreshing to see an ex player work hard for his community after hanging up the cleats, and Aaron is far from done his work. A true hero in the making!

The walls in our dining room feature many local artists combined with photos from urban and pop culture to highlight some individuals we identify as Blk Swans.

The featured art was curated by @aaronmaybin and @visualcleanse. They will continue to curate different art installations quarterly which will also feature artwork from local Baltimore city public school students via a giveback and art educational / training initiative powered by Blk Swan x @aaronmaybin x @btstcares.
