So yeah, this is SUPER late— but here's the blooper reel for Dead Draw.

For SURE my favorite part to edit was the sound design of the boots in the Western section 😤😤😤😤😤

And then that one time where I forgot to put the 'Dead Draw' title over the censor pawn, but y'know... I didn't feel like exporting again 🥴

The biggest challenge for this sequence was obviously just the fact that the variety of the footage was very limited. And it was especially hard to figure out ways to imply y’know— Contact— since there obviously was none, and they weren’t even aloud to throw punches in the air, which would’ve made the illusion a lot easier to pull off, but I think it worked pretty well with tight cuts and whip pans.

I obviously ripped a lot of the ideas from the Rocky 4 final fight— cause Highkey, the editing on that scene is REALLY solid, especially since they also just kinda had a bazillion shots, and had to find a way to incorporate story beats into it, and the eb and flow of who was winning. Since I just used the audio from the fight, I kiiiiinda pulled that off, but next time— I think I’ll try and find the beats in the footage before I start editing, just to make it more focused.

I used After Effects for the first time (it was a nightmare) to Roto rush those floating heads, which is a replacement of the round numbers from Rocky. But I will say, I used multiple-exposure shots a little more than I would’ve liked— That rotobrushed layer of Kenneth sitting in the chair, literally took 4 hours to do, and it STILL looked rough, which is why I threw so many layers onto it— but y’know, at the end of the day, my goal was just to challenge myself with this sort of editing— where it’s not scripted, and I basically have complete reign to mess around with the footage to create a unique result.

I’m pretty proud of this one, because compared to my Spring Scene’s montage, which took 17 hours, to produce a 25ish second long sequence— THIS one only took about 10, to produce a 1 minute, 50ish second sequence. Granted, with my Spring Scene— I also had to craft the soundscape— but that’s besides the point~

I’m looking forward to toying with more editing styles Ike this, this upcoming school year🙌🏽

long overdue but so proud of my team's work on flora & fauna this year. my first "real" uncsa film that i've edited has been a dream come true. liz, shelby, emily, kayla, dylan, and ashley: you are the best keys team i could ever ask for <333 also thank you to myself for my work as key extra

to @verohnykah @carternormanly @em.the.editor and @doranemr: thank you so much for being my editorial team. i will forever appreciate the hours of work you put into the project. an example is provided of emma booming from a trash can (slide 3).

and thank you @matthewvalledorcruz and @nathanjshanahan for uncsa's best original song. music video to come eventually.
