Yesterday when we made our post about the needs we have to keep McKemie place open, we didn’t expect this response… You guys have genuinely showed up with the donations, the comments, the shares, the SUPPORT. We feel the love right now. In only 24 hours we have been able to raise $2,765 from YOU. your donations, your shares, your comments have reached the people that it needed to make this happen. And it’s only the beginning. The best part of all? Yesterday our VERY FIRST donation on Venmo came from one of our own. Nikki came to McKemie Place last year in a position most never expect to find themselves in. And she is now thriving in her life because we were able to provide her that space and time to help her get life sorted. Ok friends. We are in a pickle and we need YOUR help. Since opening our doors in 2007, McKemie Place has been a place of safety, hope, and new beginnings for women experiencing homelessness throughout Southwest Alabama. What began by sheltering fewer than 100 women in our first year has grown into a VITAL emergency shelter serving women throughout Mobile, Baldwin, and Washington counties. Today, McKemie Place can provide a safe place for 60 women at a time, with five bedrooms, seven showers, meals, support, and a path toward independence. But keeping those doors open comes with a significant financial burden. (this is where you come in) We need your help to secure our future, so we can continue this work in our community. Our goal is to raise $550,000 to pay down our remaining debt and protect McKemie Place for the women who depend on us. We are so maxed out on space, funds, resources, and just pure energy with rescue right now. Our fosters are full, our bills are high, and of course there’s always one that comes along when we’re saying “no” that makes us stop and say “😮‍💨 ok, yes”. Makayla Mosley said he needed us, and offered to foster him (in addition to the 4 she already has with ringworm and URI 😅). So we pulled Pringles from the County Shelter last week. This poor boy has an injury to his front left arm that caused a gnarly break. He was injured prior to arriving at the shelter, so it’s hard to say what caused it, BUT there is a small hole on the outside of his arm and a break right behind it. So it might be safe to say it’s potentially a gunshot wound. 😞😡 The cause is neither here nor there, what’s more important is that Pringles needs surgery to amputate this arm so he can start healing and moving forward with a better future. We have him set up to get the amputation and his neuter on our next surgery day, as well as his remaining vetting, surgery and vetting for 6 others in the rescue. This is going to be a costly day on top of the bill we already have accrued! Until we get this and what we have on our plate handled, we are going to have to go on an intake freeze because we are currently scraping the bottom of the barrel. Saying no is hard. But it’s what we have to do to stay afloat to help more when we DO get caught up. Every little bit helps right now!! Little load up this morning of ✨16✨ Mobile Cat Society kittens who are hitching a ride on the @meowsandmutts_rescue transport north! Three of our crew were very special bottle babies. ❤️ Rigby & Morticia who came to @m_hutchinson33 quite literally on deaths door. They were a roller coaster, but she did an amazing job and they became so beautiful! And my sweet Bagheera baby boy who was found as a singleton. It’s always the hardest when you see them develop so much and send them off. But knowing that they will find amazing homes makes it all worth it! Happy tails babies!
