🎓 Sabrina Music Studio Alumni Spotlight | Abel Law 🎶

It’s always wild to see someone you know — or someone from right here at home in Kuching — end up doing extraordinary things on the other side of the world.

Take Abel Law, for instance. Music was always a huge part of his life growing up, but his path to the stage wasn’t a straight line. He actually went to university to study law. Then, during his studies, he went through something terrifying: he survived three consecutive cardiac arrests.
That kind of life event makes you stop and re-evaluate everything. He finished his law degree, but when the pandemic hit and everything paused, he decided to take a massive leap of faith. He auditioned for the Royal Academy of Music in London, got in, and even landed a Disney scholarship to pursue his Master‘s in Musical Theatre.

Fast forward a bit, and his career just took off. He landed a spot on the Les Misérables UK Tour, performed in the West End, and worked on major productions like Pacific Overtures and Miss Saigon. Most recently, he joined the Les Misérables The Arena Spectacular World Tour, sharing the stage with heavyweights like Lea Salonga, Alfie Boe, and Michael Ball.
Hearing about a kid from Kuching making it to the global stage is pretty incredible. But what’s really cool about Abel is how grounded he stays through it all, often reminding people to just ”remember your roots.“

It just goes to show that life doesn’t always go according to the script we write for ourselves, and sometimes taking that unexpected detour leads you right where you‘re supposed to be.

Where do I even begin… bringing this musical to life on the Barbican stage has been a dream come true, my stars really aligned for this one. Everyone is so uniquely talented from the cast members to the crew members, never have I beamed with this much pride during our last bows.

Thanks to this hot bunch, I got to laugh and cackle on a daily basis and also witness all your ugly cries (y’all ugly af 😛) Damn, we ate well on this one 💖

I wanted to see this show as soon as I heard it was coming back, and having seen THE @itspaolomontalban is cast, it was a double joy for me...great show and even greater cast.
I had seen the previous runs when it was at the Palladium and then at the Lyric. So, I could see that they had changed some parts of the show: rhythm, music and also staging. As much as I love this run of the production, I will have favourites still...sorry, not sorry...lol. I am however looking forward to the next run at the Barbican in 2027, and hopefully I will get to see my favourite actors on stage again. Happy trails, cast and crew.

It honestly feels like a miracle being able to say that I was part of this show. For a first big job, I am pretty certain this is as good as it gets. Rehearsing for this was intense, but it was also incredibly inspiring and so much fun. I woke up feeling excited every single day and that’s not something I take for granted. As someone who hasn’t spent much time dancing, I had best time trying to pretend like I knew what was going on and trying to level up my moves to match my insanely talented cast mates. Growing up in Asia, I never thought something like this was a possibility and I never thought this was in the cards for me. And it’s funny because looking back, I can’t imagine a life where I’m not singing, dancing, acting and making music. It seems that dreams can actually be more than just that.

To me, this cast will always hold a special place in my heart. To be part of an Asian cast has meant the world to me and to say that it’s been healing would be an understatement. This group of people are ridiculously talented and super hardworking, I can vividly remember a number of times feeling so hyped watching them in rehearsals. Getting to perform onstage with this cast every day has been a great honour and I’ll never forget how alive I felt every night. Especially when the swings come on and surprise you. On top of that, this cast is full of kind and caring people who choose to live their life with love at the forefront of everyday. The genuine care, curiosity and love within this group is not something you come across often. I’ve also lost count of how many times I’ve laughed until my tummy hurts. And, I’ve probably had enough Bahn Mi for a lifetime now but if anyone asked me to go tomorrow, I’d be right there.

To the creative team @stephen.whitson @frank.wildhorn @jasonhowlandmusic @fabianaloise @honey_joseph @ivanmenchell and more, thank you for pushing me to try and be better everyday! I’ve felt inspired in your presence and have loved working with you!

Death Note The Musical - Barbican 12/09/2026 🍎

I never could have imagined leaving Drama School and debuting straight into a new musical with a full Asian cast. It’s been a dream.
I can whole heartedly say this cast is representation of excellence, joy, pride and so much more. I am so grateful for the people it has brought into my life and being able to perform along side them every night for the past few weeks. This show is so special and I will treasure all the memories that have come from it.

Thank you so much to @ivanmenchell @frank.wildhorn @jasonhowlandmusic @fabianaloise @stephen.whitson @honey_joseph and everyone else involved for creating this beast of a show. It’s been an absolute honour to be apart of this and I cannot wait to see what the future brings for this show ❤️ @deathnotethemusical

I was so lucky and honoured to be able to see the show twice, and to secure tickets for the final show, you guys were all phenomenal, somehow it was even better than last time and I could tell you guys left everything out on the stage. You were all so amazing, I only saw the show three weeks ago and I knew I had to come back and see it again, and was lucky enough to be able to see the final performance. And hopefully you will all be able to come back for the return next March (even though I know that might be difficult). The cast are so insanely talented and honestly some of the kindest people I've ever met. Every single one of them made time for everyone at stage door, even though there were so many people and that is so amazing 🥹

I can't wait to see what this cast gets up to next and hoemslt if I can be there to see any of them, I will definitely make the effort.

Thank you so so much for the last amazing six weeks, also need a cast recording immediately!!

The ensemble members: You guys were honestly so amazing from the acting, to the choreography, to all of your voices. You honestly brought so much talent to that stage and I couldn't stop watching all of you, one of the best ensembles of any show I've ever seen. I can't wait to see what you all do next, and if I can be there I will for sure. I'm going to miss all the tiktoks and BTS of the show, but I can't wait to see what else you post.

Paolo and Elsie, you guys were such an amazing Soichiro and Sayu and you both were so friendly at stage door and absolutely matched everyone's energy! Paolo's Honour Bound was my favourite version of the song and I loved your relationship with Xander up on the stage. Elsie, you were such an amazing Sayu and I loved the scene where you fangirled over Misa, it was so funny and such an accurate representation of us fangirls 🤣

What a special show , beyond grateful that words cannot describe the pride and joy I’ve had to have been part of such a powerhouse of a cast, one can only describe as an imaculate and talented ALL Asian cast , i never thought I’d have the privilege and opportunity to be part of an all Asian cast and for that I feel truely honored and lucky . I simply cannot put into words how grateful I am to have performed this show every single night surrounded by the most amazing and supportive cast who lit up the stage every single show .The memories that I’ll hold so dear to my heart and cherish every single moment from this show !
