We took this misunderstood, COMMUNICATIVE, sweet boy, and made him our own after 140 days of fostering him.
Pecas is ours!

Believe it or not, I don’t foster so I can keep dogs, I foster so I can be a part of the journey for dogs finding their furever home. Pecas was a dog that had a lot of red flags, his communication style is one that most rescues wouldn’t see as just communication, but as risk. After 4 months of understanding him and his needs, we decided, we had come to a place where he could be handed off to a new home!

When the perfect app came along, I was so happy and sad at the same time, but mostly scared. Dogs like Pecas can end up being really misread and more harm and long term damage can come from them being in the wrong hands.

When I started fostering him, I thought I should tell him to stop growling, I was so ignorant in not realizing, that growling is COMMUNICATION. He let me know when he’s uncomfortable, and I needed to respect that because he had a warning system in place. It was important for his forever home to understand this so they didn’t silence him and make him an unpredictable dog.

Disclaimer- he has never bitten me or Abel or anyone!

Because it took so long for the perfect & understanding app to come along, I knew if they backed out for any reason, we had to just make the decision to adopt him ourselves.
Within 30 minutes of me telling the adoption coordinator that we were prepared to be on standby for him if something fell through, the perfect family let me know that they couldn’t do it after all. Which confirmed for me, we were the perfect family for him all along.

Pecas brings us to the ACTUAL county limit on dogs, and my journey with the rescue that brought me so much joy at one point to an end. I’ve learned so much about animal rescue over the past 5 years, about vet med, overpopulation, spay/termination, and I hope to continue to learn and help others learn too.

No te rindas. Sigue adelante. Mira a Dios. 🙏
