Hi! I’m Tee, a C5(ish) #quadriplegic and it turns out that being paralyzed can be really painful. Nerve pain is a huge physical and psychological stress that a big part of the spinal cord injury community deals with. I’m lucky that it has gotten considerably better since leaving the hospital and that I’ve learned how to best manage what’s left #paralyzed #wheelchair #spinalcordinjury #tetraplegic

“Let’s take a stand & show the world our abilities.”

Last year, I had the blessing of working on an incredible TV project w/ extraordinary women. I learned so much about connection, business & myself. I believe God placed me there at the right time. Everything happens for a reason & we don’t understand why until we reach the next chapter.

I came back to LA & been listening, watching, living it & speaking w/ friends, fighters & survivors from all walks of life. One thing has become clear & hits DEEP.

We have the talent, knowledge, experience & ABILITY. What we don’t always have is the opportunity nor the SUPPORT. I'm talking about REAL support! Yes, people talk about community. 🫩 I've seen folks say to others that they’ll show up, help & be there. But sayin it & actually SHOWING UP are two very different things.

October is Disability Employment Awareness Month & I want the world to SEE what ability looks like. Having a disability doesn’t instantly give us a seat at the table.. Some voiced. We still have to learn our craft, train, study, build & become undeniable at what we do. But disability should NEVER be the reason that seats are taken away from us!

THIS is why my heart has created The Rolling Empire. I've spent over 30 years in front & behind the camera...modeling, acting, producing, speaking & creating. And since Push Girls, I keep hearing...“What’s next?”

Well... THIS is what’s next. A place to gather Warriors in one arena to gain the tools, knowledge, guidance, "REAL" community & opportunities to become TRAILBLAZERS. To grow one-on-one & together as a tribe, a Family, an Empire. 💫

In one year! Mark the date: Friday October 15th 2027. I'm dedicating this to My Trailblazen sis @Autiangel. 🤍🪽

I’m gathering Warriors, survivors, dreamers, doers, Queens & Kings...the ones who KNOW they have somethin to bring to this world but haven’t been given the room to bring it. I SEE YOU. 🤩 This Empire isn’t being built FOR you. It’s being built WITH you. We’re going to open doors & where there isn’t a door, WE’RE GOING TO BUILD ONE.

Video description: Clips of people using 3D printed pill bottle caps with a loop that go on top of a CVS pill bottle, a glue stick cap that replaces the original cap and has a loop, and a playdoh cap that replaces the original cap with a loop. Everyone looks very pleased with the devices!

Transcript: This project really is the gift that keeps on giving. It started with Mark who designed this pill bottle cap for himself and generously shared the file with us to download and print. We shared a video of it and Amber commented and asked if someone could make something similar for glue sticks. Of course Mark jumped in to help and now that design is available to download and print. But it didn’t stop there because then someone else asked, what about play doh? So a huge thank you to Mark for continuing to build on this project. Should we give him some more ideas to work on? What else is hard to open?

The beginnings are so scary, difficult but mostly lonely because no one around you will fully understand what you’re going through unless they have gone through it themselves. Just remember that it really does get better.

Today for #SpinalCordInjuryAwarenessMonth I want to remind you that “As you sow, so shall you reap” and that working hard in these beginnings will truly pay off. If you’re meant to recover function, this hard work will make it happen better and faster. If not, it will help you maximize the ability you do have. Hi! I’m Tee, a C5(ish) #quadriplegic, and I believe #accessibility = inclusion.

Come along with me as I explore the @californiasciencecenter, a place that, from my experience, is a pretty good example of what accessibility can look like in the real world.

And honestly? I can actually see myself coming here independently, which is a BIG deal for me.

When I first pulled up to purchase my tickets, there were only a few ticket windows open. One was the Member Services window with basically no line, while the other ticket line was long and zigzagging with what looked like about a 20-minute wait.

Then I noticed the accessible/ADA counter.

The problem? There was nobody there.

So, like most wheelchair users, I had a moment of, “Okay… what am I supposed to do here?” 😅

I decided to pull up to the Member Services window and explain that I needed an accessible counter. They immediately waved me over to the lower register on the left, where I could easily reach the screen, get my tickets, and make my credit card payment without needing someone to do it for me.

👏👏👏

And that small thing made a HUGE difference.

But there was one thing I wish they had:

SIGNAGE.

There should be a clear sign letting people with disabilities know that if the accessible counter isn’t staffed, we can use the Member Services window and be directed to the accessible register.

Because I almost got in that 20-minute line.

And this is something I think gets overlooked when we talk about accessibility.

It’s not enough for an accessible option to exist. People need to know how to access it. I should also note the obvious, I focus on accessibility from the perspective of a wheelchair user rod as I roll around today. I wonder how do people navigate that have a visual impairment. Chime in if you have any experience with that…. I need to get more educated.
