When I got a new IUD, I kept the old one for this raspberry guardian project. I made it while thinking about options, medicines, and the good people who make healthcare safe and accessible. I beaded with gratitude for @access.bc and my dear friend and colleague @abortionmd

Everyone needs different things for their wellness. The best combo for me is progestin contraception (IUD) to treat severe dysmenorrhea with anemia, raspberry leaf tea for mild cramps, and beadwork for connection and calm.

🚨 Across Canada, there are at least seven anti-abortion pregnancy centres that offer recreational, non-diagnostic ultrasounds, used to manipulate people into continuing their pregnancies. 🚨 Read our full statement at www.arcc-cdac.ca/media (🔗 in bio)

These organizations operate without any medical oversight or accountability, and their use of non-medical ultrasounds risks the lives of vulnerable folks seeking medical care.

In addition to the fact that the people working at these centres are often not medical professionals, the organizational bias of UPCs creates a risk that ultrasound images will be interpreted in ways that support their anti-abortion agenda. This can delay pregnant people from seeking real medical care, and provide a false sense of security around the health or viability of a pregnancy.

📍 Here are the seven centres in Canada that offer recreational, non-medical ultrasounds:

Atwell Centre, Hamilton ON
Dawn Centre, Cambridge ON
Haven Pregnancy Support Clinic, Victoria BC
Hope for Women Pregnancy Services, BC (3 locations: Langley, Abbotsford, Prince George)
Women’s Care Centre, Fredericton NB

We urge provincial and federal governments, and the appropriate regulatory bodies, to regulate or prohibit the non-medical use of ultrasounds in UPCs, and to ensure that people facing unwanted pregnancies receive the competent medical care they deserve. At least seven unregulated pregnancy centres across Canada offer recreational, non-diagnostic ultrasounds. The use of ultrasound machines without medical regulation or oversight by these centres raises serious privacy, ethical, and safety concerns.
