Today I visited ABYSS Brewing – Lewes, East Sussex 🍻

Started in 2016 in the cellar of a local pub, these folks have been brewing top-tier, hop-forward craft beers and bringing serious good vibes ever since.

Now operating out of their epic taproom at the historic Southdown Brewery Malthouse on Davey's Lane, ABYSS serves up 12 lines of fresh, bold brews—from ultra-juicy NEIPAs (looking at you, DANK Marvin 🔥) to rich stouts and crisp pilsners.

Many cans to review. 🍻👍

Insane psychedelic can designs, street food pop-ups, and live music... if you’re in Sussex, this place is an absolute must-visit! 🙌✨ Paul

Sorry folks, reluctantly given the stormy weekend forecast, Saturday’s ride with @abyssbrewing is cancelled. Heavy rain, gale force winds, it wouldn’t be a lot of fun. We’ll provisionally have a look at rescheduling for November if time and weather allows. Please share and spread the word so we can avoid any riders having wasted journeys. Hopefully see you all soon ☔️😽#abyssCC #velojayCC #rainstopsplay

I need to grow up 😂

These are all brewed within a few miles of each other. Lewes is such a little alcohol free hotbed.

Beers from @harveysbrewery @burningskybeer and @abyssbrewing

All picked up from a jam packed little @sevencellars in Brighton station.

As ever, I'll be expecting good things from the Burning Sky x @wecanbefriendsuk collab. He rarely misses, and I tend to agree with @alcohol_free_world when he hands out a gold.

A Mock Tudor pillar of the folk-horror tri-fector and a 60’s coven in the same cavern. Post-pub TV classics providing sample fodder and doodle inspiration for an eldritch generation. Oooh Betty 😩💀(Or Swipe for other clues) . Taken from the forthcoming GHOST CARDS book. (alongside over 100 other vintage postcards featuring original spooky film locations). #AngelBlake

Day 290 of Kat’s Grats: Popping My Beer Festival Cherry (17/10/26)

Today, history happened in my little world. I popped my beer festival cherry, and who better to do it with than these absolute minxes.

We were the @beershopfolkestone massive at the @timeandtidebrewing beer festival, which meant I got to be a token lad (as if) for the that, whilst spending the whole night chatting with my bestie.

Between them, they absolutely wiped the floor with the beer tasting. My contribution? A grand total of trying 3 beers. But, for someone who hates beer, I actually managed to find not one, not two, but THREE sours I really liked.

A Rave (because anything associated with the word rave has to be delicious), a cheeky blueberry Time and Tide special, and my favourite, a little abyss Marg sour that even left a salty taste in your mouth.

Despite looking completely out of place in my pink fur jacket, leopard-print socks and satin skirt, I bloody loved it We shared pints, clinked our merch glasses, discussed tasting notes and flavours, voted for our favourite LOL beer names, and won the audience singing participation competition as we bellowed 'Let the Good Times Roll' at the top of our lungs in response to a cheeky little harmonica. We happily accepted free beer tokens from people leaving while the night was still young, and, we also got to celebrate Richard turning half a century.

The staff were lovely, clearly passionate about their beer and the labour of love that goes into making each one. Although I'm not entirely sure what the geezer serving me thought of my enthusiasm.

I proudly informed him that he'd taken my beer festival cherry with my my first ever sour - the cheeky Marg. He didn't seem particularly moved by this milestone in my life at all (his enthusiastic thumb says it all). But when I returned for a third of the cheery Rave, he washed my glass out and poured me a very generous third.

Perhaps he adored me. Perhaps he just wanted me to stop coming back to his stool. The mystery remains.
An unexpectedly delightful night, and a new experience to add to the collection and a milestone achieved: my Beer festival cherry - popped

Cheers to one of our favourite regulars at the PPT @maisieadam for nominating us to @joelycett and @thelycettarms. Joe and his team have kindly put a £100 tab behind the bar tonight and we have matched it.

So come on down and celebrate the great British pub tonight from 5pm.

£200, when its gone its gone. Ask for Joe Lycett's tab. Cheers 🍻
