Our friends from Notre Dame visited campus today to talk all things VISION! Cabrini Fellows from the University of Notre Dame’s Principal Academy joined us as part of one of their immersion experiences, spending time with our leadership team exploring St. Madeleine Sophie’s mission, our vision for the future, and the intentional work that brings that vision to life each day.

We were grateful for the chance to learn from one another. There’s something pretty special about bringing Catholic school leaders together to dream about what’s possible for our students and communities.

And…Nothing better than an SMS × ND collaboration!

What does community really mean at Miege?

For our students, it means friendships that cross grade levels, having a voice in the school they call home, and knowing there are people here who will show up for them.

During a recent visit from the ACE Principal Academy Fellows, a panel of four students and four teachers shared their perspectives on the Miege experience and what it means to belong.

This is mission in action. ❤️💙

We were so honored to host these principals from across the country!

“It’s hard to learn when you’re hungry.”

That was the simple truth John Staud, executive director of the Alliance for Catholic Education (ACE) at the University of Notre Dame, offered to reporters after a lively reveal ceremony on Thursday, September 17, at St. John the Baptist Catholic School in South Bend. Students, staff and a crowd of partners gathered in a newly transformed Father Jacobs Hall — the school’s cafeteria and kitchen — to celebrate the completion of a $50,000 renovation funded through the College Football Playoff Foundation’s Extra Yard Makeover Project.

The project brought together the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend’s Catholic Schools Office, ACE, Notre Dame Athletics, and School Specialty, a national furniture and education-supply company.

David Maugel, superintendent of schools for the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend, recommended St. John the Baptist for the grant. The funding covered new cafeteria tables and serving counters, with new upper and lower cabinets and countertops arriving in October. Amy Veugeler, a representative of School Specialty, told the crowd that the company has partnered with the College Football Playoff Foundation for more than a decade and that Thursday’s unveiling was its 125th makeover nationally.

The ceremony carried the energy of a pep rally as much as a ribbon-cutting. Notre Dame assistant athletic director Harold Swanigan introduced Leonard Moore, an All-American cornerback for the third-ranked Fighting Irish and a semifinalist for the Wuerffel Trophy, which honors college football’s most impactful leaders in community service. Moore fielded questions from students and urged them to set goals and give full effort in school, not just on the field.

“School is going to be a steppingstone for whatever y’all want to do in life,” Moore told the students.
