Real conversations. Real issues. Real leadership. I appreciate The Conversation Series New Orleans for creating a space for Black men to come together, ask the tough questions, and have meaningful conversations about the issues impacting our communities. As a judge, I believe leadership starts with listening, accountability, and a commitment to serving the people. With Election Day approaching on November 3, I’m continuing to show up, engage with our communities, and work to earn your vote. Rooted. Fair. Fearless. “One thing that affects everybody is farming, and in ways that a lot of people don’t realize.” Jamie Davis, who is running for the U.S. Senate in Louisiana, joined the second installment of “The Conversation” at Chicken’s Kitchen in Harvey. The third-generation Tensas Parish farmer explained how the federal Farm Bill reaches far beyond agriculture. Because it also governs SNAP, decisions affecting farmers and food production are directly connected to food assistance, household affordability and families across Louisiana. A long-overdue conversation. Black men from across New Orleans came together at St. Noir for an open and honest discussion about voting, accountability, and the future of our city. This wasn’t about politics as usual. It was about recognizing the power of our voices, the responsibility that comes with our votes, and the role we all have in shaping what comes next for New Orleans. The conversation has started. Now the work continues. Our voices matter. Our votes matter. Our city matters.

There were no panels. No formal presentations. Just a room full of Black men talking candidly about New Orleans, voting, accountability and what it will take to make the city better. NEWS FROM THE NEIGHBORHOOD | A REAL CONVO Tonight, I attended “The Conversation,” the first in what nolafacilitator says will be a series of discussions bringing Black men from across the city together with elected officials, community leaders and business owners. The conversation went beyond simply telling people to vote. Why have people stopped participating? What is the return on investment when communities vote but don’t feel they see results? How do we reengage inactive voters? How do we bring young people into the process? What responsibility belongs to elected officials, and what responsibility belongs to residents? There was also an acknowledgment of something New Orleans has seen before: meetings with plenty of conversation and little follow-up. That may be the real test of “The Conversation.” Can the people in the room turn discussion into action? Councilman Jason Hughes said he hoped the gathering would be “the beginning of us being accountability partners.” Now comes the accountability. 📖 Read the full story at Evans Cutchmore Press.
