A diptych of dots.

Not only are these two pieces filled with layers of colours, but they have layers of tactility purely created with paint.

They started off as twins before going through a big break up when they didn't even talk to each other. Then this week they decided to buddy up again and celebrate their similarities.

Excuse the crooked photo, I'm happy to blame my sight loss and wheelchair leaning angle.

If you'd like to see and feel them then come along to my open studio on the 7th and 8th November.

3 pieces of exciting Art News

You know the saying "you wait ages for a bus and then three come along together"? Well that's a good analogy for the art news I've had this week after many many rejections from art competitions.

I'll be writing much more about each of these in my newsletter so sign up at my website.

1. Divine Designs: Between the Covers
I submitted 4 paintings, 1 for each of 4 books of the Bible, Psalms, Job, 2 John and 1 Chronicles; to the Divine Designs art competition. I was sure I was getting way above my station as an artist but 2 of my paintings have been chosen, the first image representing 2 John and the second representing 1 Chronicles. The exhibition runs from February until April next year at St John's Waterloo.

2. Opulent Mobility 2026
The third painting shown above is the first in my "Life as a Disabled Person " series. I submitted it to the Opulent Mobility Exhibition on an optimistic whim. Imagine my surprise when this painting was selected to be part of the Opulent Mobility Exhibition this December in Hollywood LA, USA !!!!

3. And finally.... Nature through the Artist's Eye
You might remember the 4 paintings in the fourth image; they are from my "Caring for Creation Together" exhibition that was launched at COP26 in Glasgow with Tearful and then became a book published by Wild Goose Publications of Iona. I will be giving the main talk at the "Nature through the Artist's Eye" conference in April, sharing my paintings, poetry and my passion for the environment and art.

There is a lot going on with Mike's mum now receiving palliative care, but it was wonderful to share all this news with her yesterday and see her excitement.

All of these pieces will be available to see at Acorn Open Studios next month and I'll share more in my newsletter.

There is always light shining, even in the darkest days.

I did a thing! Fortunately my painting abilities are much better than my dexterity with a giant board so please forgive my terrible reveal 😂 here’s a painted record of my most favourite meal at @thameslido - I have it every time 🙈

Scallops at Thames Lido
October 2026
Acrylic on board
42cm x 59cm

Off to get it framed now - it’ll be at my open studio on 7-8 November if you want to come see it in person. Or you know - have it in your home! 😝 maybe it’s your favourite dish?!?

Did you know that there are acorn weevils?
Did you even know what a weevil was?
Does my digital painting help?
I doubt it because, as my favourite two biologists keep telling me, this is completely out of scale and doesn't look like a weevil anyway. It's always nice to get positive feedback!

I'm sure you know that bears love acorns, this bear might have got carried away though. I hope he doesn't drop his precarious pile .

Badgers love acorns, but this one can't be bothered to take them off the oak branch, I wonder how he's getting that into his set.

And then there's the woodpecker, they collect acorns and hide them in trees, but somehow this woodpecker has found a massive acorn that isn't going to fit anywhere.

I've painted these four paintings as my last entries for the #AcornsForAcorns26 challenge by @acornopenstudios

Do you have a favourite?

I hope you've enjoyed the series as much as I have. These will all be available to see at my venue on the open studios

Don't forget to put the weekend of the 7th and 8th November in your diary, visit me and then as many of my fellow 30 artists as you can.

I have created this tiny polymer clay model of oak leaves and acorns on a branch for the #AcornsForAcorns26 challenge by @acornopenstudios

Each acorn is smaller than a finger nail which is stupidly small for anyone, let alone someone who can barely see, but then creating by feel is easier if you have to do that most of your life.

Don't forget to put the weekend of the 7th and 8th November in your diary, visit me to see this and other tiny polymer clay and foam clay creations; then as many of my fellow 30 artists as you can.
