Austin is prepared! 💪🏾 United Way of Metro Chicago and @act.chicago hosted disaster preparedness workshops for residents to get ready for flooding and other potential disasters.

🔦 @redcrossil presented tools and tips related to severe weather and house fires. All attendees also received a disaster preparedness kit, including power banks, flashlights, ponchos, fire aid kits, and more.

👉🏾 United Way’s community partners in Little Village and Brighton Park are also hosting disaster preparedness workshops. Supported by @verizon, United Way is grateful to be a part of the United We Prepare initiative and help residents meet their immediate needs now — and when disaster strikes.

📲 Need help? Call 2-1-1, text your zip code to 898-211, or visit 211MetroChicago.org.

🎓 College Dreams, Endless Possibilities! 🌟

Four of our Towers of Excellence students hit the road with The BASE Chicago for an unforgettable college tour through Tennessee! Our very own Mr. Myers joined our Pathways to Excellence students for this inspiring experience.

From Vanderbilt University to Tennessee State University (TSU), Belmont University, and beyond, our students joined fellow West Side Chicago youth to explore college campuses, experience college life, and imagine the possibilities for their futures! 💙🧡

Because sometimes, you have to see what’s possible to believe it’s possible! ✨

A HUGE thank-you to our incredible partners at @thebasechicago The BASE Chicago for opening doors, creating opportunities, and helping our young people envision themselves in spaces they may have never imagined.

This is what happens when organizations come together to invest in our youth. 🙌

3 days until we open the door.

Behind every opportunity is a story worth telling.

A mentor who shows up. An experience that sparks possibility. A connection that helps a young person see a different future.

At Towers of Excellence, we’re getting ready to share something that brings those stories to the forefront.

10.12.26

Open Doors. Change Futures.

Stay tuned.

What if one opportunity could change what you thought was possible?

Sometimes a new connection, experience, mentor, or opportunity can open a path you didn’t know was there.

At Towers of Excellence, we’ve seen what can happen when young people are given the opportunity to explore what’s possible.

And we’re getting ready to open even more doors.

The Aspire Center for Workforce Innovation @acwichi adaptively reused the formerly vacant Robert Emmet Elementary School to create a modern workforce development center and community services hub. Driven by grassroots advocacy from Austin neighborhood residents, the state-of-the-art facility now offers local job training, financial coaching, legal aid and other supportive services to community members.

Thanks to @act.chicago for inviting young people @territorynfp to be apart of “Nothing About Us Without Us” youth empowerment series with @chicagosmayor hosted at @buildchicago.

It was amazing to see a safe and authentic conversation between teens and the Mayor of Chicago. Being from the Westside and having people advocate for the greater good of the west side residents is revitalizing.

We were happy to celebrate five years of Island Oasis! 🎉

The anniversary brought neighbors and community partners together for good food, helpful resources and plenty of community connection. Guests enjoyed food from Fatso’s, learned more about The Island Civic Association, had the opportunity to register to vote with Chicago Votes and received beautiful flower bouquets assembled by With Love Chicago.

The 29th Ward Alderman’s Office, ACT and Human Scale also joined in the celebration.

Congratulations to Island Oasis on five years! We’re always glad to support and celebrate the people and organizations doing meaningful work in our West Side communities.

LEADERSHIP STARTS WITH HOW YOU SHOW UP.

You don’t have to wait for a title, position, or opportunity to start making an impact.

Start where you are. Use what you have. Lead by example.
