POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Earlier this week the UK Prime Minister @andy.burnham announced "Great British Grid" in his first leaders speech at the @uklabour Conference - a government backed body to invest in the grid.

The government-owned GB Grid will work with the private sector and network companies to increase competition, reduce costs and speed up delivery, in order to help businesses connect to the power grid sooner, and reduce energy bills.

This is a very welcome and hopeful announcement. The delays, bureaucracy, cost and complexity of making new connections to the grid is stifling innovation even when all of the willingness and investment is there, as we have seen time and time again through our work at @grid_faeries.

In the outdoor event sector it's meant a continued dependence on burning diesel for power (millions of ltrs per year) instead of connecting to clean energy on the grid. At a wider grid scale it's meant delays in replacing polluting energy sources with new renewables.

The finer details are still to be shared, but this shows a recognition of the problem and a willingness to do something about it.

We'll discuss this and more at #GEI19 at @theo2london, 23rd February.

‘You just fucking did the right thing Bristol’

@lorde

Our West Stage had ZERO emissions in 2026. The only waste, fully drinkable virgin water...

This was thanks to the West of England Clean Power Pilot which was a world-first renewable energy project providing clean power to FORWARDS 2026.

The pilot is funded by @westofenglandcombinedauthority as part of @mayorhelengodwin Green Energy Fund, working with ACT 1.5 and partners across the region.

Thank you to our longstanding power partner @impressionone_ for delivering the project on the ground alongside @powerlogistics.uk.

A major milestone for the West of England Clean Power Pilot (CPP) this weekend, with 55,000 fans at FORWARDS on Clifton Downs enjoying performances from artists such as Lorde, Little Simz, Tems & Goldie -made possible by green power 🎶
- read more in Friday's Guardian article via the link in our bio 🔗

Meanwhile behind the scenes, performances of a different kind are also being supported...

A key focus of the CPP is to break down barriers between live music event delivery and film/TV production, both of which require similar technologies and expertise to reduce emissions.

In addition to the Summer festivals that have been supported, productions like Mavis Ecclestone (ITV), Young Sherlock S2 (Prime Video) and Can You Keep a Secret? S2 (BBC) have also made use of the CPP's green power solutions in one way or another, whether by powering up unit vehicles at the 200kVA Battery Hub installed at The Bottle Yard, or tapping into the fleet of batteries to power their work out on location. Power Logistics and Bristol Film Office have been working closely with Locations teams to create solutions for differing needs.

🎬FOR EXAMPLE: Can You Keep A Secret S2 (Big Talk Studios), filmed at The Bottle Yard Studios and on location.

The production's Somerset unit base is powered by a 318kVA / 336kWh battery supplied by the CPP through Power Logistics and topped up by 80 solar panels (pictured). The site also has a solar powered honey wagon, EV charging for the electric and hybrid unit fleet and an additional hybrid generator for location power.

Real progress in action. And so much learning being achieved along the way - with every new engagement, the offering is improved. We're hugely proud to be a part of it!

@forwardsbristol Festival showed us how big events can be powered more sustainably.

Clean energy batteries and hydrogen helped power the festival stages, using world leading technology.

I’m proud that through my Mayor’s Clean Energy Fund, we’ve supported a dozen creative events this summer to use clean power, bringing together our region's creativity and innovation.

Massive salute to

West Country pioneering & piloting clean energy. So much respect for all the hard work behind the scenes to ensure all these MAJOR events are completely powered by clean energy, to the extent it produces water so clean you can drink it. So many festivals forgot the history, who we were and why we were dancing in fields under the stars. The criminal justice act came in & festivals became part of huge corporate money making machines and lost their way. Here we are 30yrs later and to see @act1.5_ @mayorhelengodwin @massiveattackofficial @daddygofficial @robert3delnaja and @tomlovesaves
PAVING THE WAY🔥

WE SALUTE YOU ALL!!

This year at FORWARDS the East Stage is being powered by batteries from only 5 miles away from our festival site thanks to Greener Power Solutions.

This was made possible through the West of England Clean Power Pilot, part of the Mayor’s Clean Energy Fund.

What a fantastic day we had last Thursday, hosting the Battery Demo Open Day for the West of England Clean Power Pilot 🔋⚡👏

The Pilot, delivered by WECA, Bristol City Council, Act 1.5 and multiple clean power providers, is supercharging greener film, TV and live event production across the region - and we are electrified with pride to be hosting its Battery Hub in our Backlot ⚡

The recharging and storage hub consists of a 200kVA supply, specifically for charging mobile Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) units that can be sent out across the region to power live events and film shoots wherever they take place, with Power Logistics acting as primary specialist logistics coordinator. The supply is also available for direct use by any film/TV production filming with us at the Studios 🎬

Mobile BESS units currently being used range from small handheld batteries with 2.1 kWh storage, to larger units with 150 kWh, 360 kWh and 422 kWh storage. A couple of days after our Open Day, a number of them were whisked off to Bristol Harbour Festival to provide clean power for stages, bars and caterers, avoiding the need for generators 👏

Thanks to all who helped make Thursday such an engaging day; from the Location Managers, film/live events crew and Sustainability Coordinators who came, to the partners working behind the scenes to make the Pilot happen.

Shout out to Ian, Archie and the Power Logistics team for their informative demos and answering so many Q's - we're pretty sure everyone went away knowing something new about battery capability and function!

Thanks to battery partners Zenobē, GeoPura, Greener Power Solutions, Instagrid, Grid Faeries x Ecotricity for showcasing their kit, and Facilities by ADF for their beautifully airconditioned trailers providing battery-powered respite from the sun🔋

Thanks to exhibitors NXTGENbps, CAMA AssetFlow, Olio, Location One, VI Rental, Neptune Sustainability, Afanti, Filming in England, South West Net Zero Hub, Real SFX, Bristol Energy Cooperative ✅

Finally, thanks to the Bottle Yard & Bristol Film Office teams for coordinating event logistics, and All Set West volunteers who helped on the day 👏

Power Logistics was pleased to support the Clean Power Pilot Battery Demo Open Day held at @thebottleyardstudios last Thursday. The event was designed to showcase the West of England Clean Power Pilot which aims to reduce pollution and help provide cleaner air to those who attend, live near, work on, or perform at this summer’s events.

Our Solutions Engineer, Archie Parker, who is overseeing the Clean Power Hub, as part of the Pilot, delivered four demonstrations throughout the day.

These covered how battery energy storage systems operate, examples of the technology in action and Power Logistics’ work with @act1.5_ @westofenglandcombinedauthority, Bristol City Council and The Bottle Yard Studios.

Our role is to facilitate the use of battery solutions wherever possible and the technology is already supporting productions and events beyond the hub. Two batteries had left for Bristol Harbour Festival that morning, while two Instagrid units recently powered the Birdman event, avoiding the need for a 20kVA generator.

Visitors were also introduced to the newly installed grid supply at the Clean Power Hub with several productions at The Bottle Yard Studios already making use of the connection.

Attendees were able to see the batteries in action powering unit base trailers and there were also exhibitors who provide sustainable solutions to the Film & TV industry in attendance.
