Día de los Muertos teaches us that a person dies twice: once when they leave this world, and again when no one says their name. We refuse the second death. Today and always, we say the names of those we have lost to immigration enforcement. Join us in creating an altar in your neighborhood, in your school, in your home to honor the victims of ICE and CBP and to the violence of our immigration detention and deportation systems. A massive new artwork has transformed the Lower East Side, and the story behind it runs deep. In Loisaida, artist Dasic Fernández transformed the entire facade of the Sixth Street Community Center into Raíces y Resiliencia. Known for vivid, large-scale street art shaped by 90s Chilean street culture and architecture, Fernández brings a deep social commitment to this work. @dasicfernandez For decades, the Sixth Street Community Center has served as a Lower East Side hub for food sovereignty, climate justice, and organizing: built by generations of local neighbors and activists. @sixthstreetcc This massive mural honors that grassroots legacy right on the walls of the building they made home. Save this for your next NYC street art walk. Location: 638 E 6th St, New York, NY In collaboration with The Action Lab @actionlabny Send this to someone who loves public art. 🎥 @reelnewyorkcity

A look at the history and stories behind Virginia Ayress’s monument, “¡Y Yo Ya Estaba!” launching November 8th, in the South Bronx. For the third installation of HISTORIAS in Motion, The Clemente’s collaboration with Kinfolk Tech, we highlight the histories of land stewardship and community organizing in the South Bronx. Located at María Solá Community Greenspace, the monument honors generations of Indigenous, Puerto Rican, Caribbean, and Latin American communities who have shaped Mott Haven and Port Morris. The garden, cultivated through the work of South Bronx Unite and the Mott Haven/Port Morris Community Land Stewards, is itself a monument to community ownership and resisting narratives of neglect from New York City. Through symbols, cultural landmarks, and archival imagery, Virginia Ayress’ mural and monument traces the people and places that have sustained the neighborhood across generations. Featuring photographs by Edwin Pagán and storytelling by Kaila Bulé (@kailabule), the monument challenges familiar narratives of the South Bronx as a place of abandonment, centering instead the people who continued to create, organize, and build community. The title says it all: ¡Y Yo Ya Estaba! Before recognition or redevelopment, we were already here. LINK IN BIO TO REGISTER

Meet Ella, Lebron, Anthonie, and James: JFK8 workers and members of the Safety Committee they formed under the NY HERO Act. As worker-leaders in our union, they’ve been educating their coworkers about their rights under the law and helping them file complaints with the NY State Department of Labor over Amazon’s violations of the NY Warehouse Worker Injury Reduction Act at JFK8. Now, we need the Department of Labor to do its job: investigate these violations and hold Amazon accountable. Workers are standing up for their safety. It’s time for New York State to stand with them and enforce the law.
