One year down, plenty more laps to go 🏊

In just 12 months, the Kensington Community Aquatic and Recreation Centre has welcomed 500,000 visitors, become home to 20 sporting groups, helped 140+ people learn to swim for free, and delivered more than 5,000 group fitness classes.

Not a bad rap sheet before they've even turned 1.

Join us this Saturday as we celebrate an incredible first year of the Kensington Community Aquatic and Recreation Centre with free activities, fitness classes, music, games and more.

Details via link in bio. See you at Kenny Rec! The image shows a community centre with the text: "Happy 1st birthday Kenny Rec! One year on and growing strong." People are gathered outside the Kensington Community Aquatic and Recreation Centre with bicycles, and tall trees are in the foreground. The building has a modern design with textured walls.

FASTEST EVER AROUND THE TAN. 🏆

For generations, some of Australia’s best athletes have tested themselves around Melbourne’s iconic 3.827km Tan Track.

These are the benchmarks.

Men’s course record - Craig Mottram, 10:08
Women’s course record - Linden Hall + Jessica Hull, 11:31
Para record - Michael Roeger, 10:53

Behind those records sits an incredible all-time Top 10 across men, women and para, spanning different eras and generations of Australian running.
From Craig Mottram’s 2006 benchmark that still stands today, to Linden Hall equalling Jessica Hull’s women’s record in 2026, the history keeps evolving.

Every year, new names are added.
Every year, the standard gets harder.

And on 18 April 2027, the next chapter will be written.

Could you set your own official time around The Tan?

Thank you to Matt Brett, Centre Manager of Riverslide Skate Park for choosing me to be interviewed by the City of Melbourne for their "Third Places" article.
.
I am forever grateful ❤️
.
I'm just a regular girl that picked up a board one day & found out it was super fun!
.
If I can skate, any girl can skate.

The Tan is more than a running track.

It’s part of Melbourne.

For generations, Olympians, elite athletes, club runners, everyday runners, walkers and run clubs have all tested themselves, trained, connected and shared the same iconic 3.827km lap.

And for Run the Tan, there could be no other home.

One lap.
One hill.
No hiding.

From the history and records to the people and community that bring it to life every day, the Tan is woven into Melbourne’s running culture.

The Tan Track.
The official home of Run the Tan.

Made in Melbourne. Built by community.
