Sometimes, what looks repetitive or unusual to us may be exactly the kind of sensory input our children are seeking. We can become so focused on stopping a behavior that we forget to ask what purpose it might serve. ☝🏽

Not every behavior is sensory related, but learning to recognize sensory needs can help us respond with more understanding, patience, and support 🫂

I’m not a professional, just a mom navigating the world of autism, advocating for my child, and taking a moment to share what I’ve learned along the way. I’m still learning, too!

OC Coastkeeper was proud to join Waves of Ability, an @adaptivefreedomfoundation event that brought people of all abilities together for a day filled with wellness, adapted interactive activities, and more.

What an absolute honor to receive the Inclusion in Action Award from @adaptivefreedomfoundation and be recognized by @longbeachcity (again🥹).

It was a pleasure speaking on stage at @waves_of_ability and receiving this amazing award. I got to speak on stage with one of my fave humans @marnawheels (and dance thru technical difficulties), make new friends like @inclusivecorecollective (go check them out they have the COOLEST MERCH EVER), and connect with old friends like @johnfregister (who I had zero clue was a Paralympic medalist😬) as well.

Can we also take a moment to recognize that “professionalism” is a myth and this amount of joy and whimsy is always acceptable, even when you’re accepting awards, showing up for events or just being yourself online. There’s a time and a place for everything, of course, but as long as it’s “age appropriate”, goofiness and joy belong in these spaces!

Remember: you attract the type of clients you style your pitch to, and your presence in a room is always a pitch all on its own 😉. Be yourself, spread joy, promote kindness, ALWAYS! 🫶🏼

Our first popup was a success, to say the least! ✨ Beyond sales, we met so many amazing people and received so many words of encouragement. Thank you to @adaptivefreedomfoundation & @waves_of_ability for inviting us and giving us the opportunity to connect with the community. We made so many genuine connections and had a great time! We can’t wait for next year and so much more in between 🖤 Shoutout to my hubby/ partner for working into the late nights to prep with me (and many months of support)!

Waves of Ability is about so much more than one event — it’s about bringing together incredible people and organizations who believe in inclusion, connection, and creating more opportunities for everyone. 🌊💙

A huge thank you to Niko, a @triumphfoundation ambassador, for coming out to Waves of Ability and hosting pickleball with us! 🏓♿️

We snapped this photo together at the Therapeutic Riding Center HB booth — another amazing organization that joined us for the day and helped show just how many different ways adaptive recreation, connection, and community can change lives. 🐴💙

We loved watching Niko make his way around the event, meeting the incredible groups and vendors who helped bring Waves of Ability to life.

And to every adaptive sports organization, wellness provider, community partner, vendor, volunteer, performer, sponsor, and supporter who showed up — THANK YOU. This day was special because all of you brought your own piece of the community together in one place.

That’s what Waves of Ability is all about:
