Bakehouse is proud to announce the new artists accepted to our 2026-2028 Studio Residency Program! 💫

We are so happy to announce a new cohort of artists who will join our community, receiving 24/7 access to studio space and shared art-making facilities. The program will also offer opportunities for creative and professional development through studio visits, workshops, and more.

Bakehouse received over 120 applications this year from exceptional artists across the city. As opportunities for affordable studio spaces are exceedingly rare in Miami, this program helps fulfill a significant need for artists in the area.

We’d like to thank this year’s jury, Donna Harpisheh, PhD, Associate Curator of Art and Research, Miami, Florida; Paula Kroll, Assistant Curator, The Museum of Contemporary Art - LA ; and René Morales, Senior Curatorial Fellow here at Bakehouse; who generously provided their time and expertise in selecting this year’s cohort.

Bakehouse Art Complex just announced its Fall 2026 / Winter 2027 exhibition season 💫

@bakehouseartcomplex opens the season with BAKEHOUSE @ @coldefy.fr / COLDEFY @ BAKEHOUSE — a dual-site installation with Paris-based practice Coldefy, opening simultaneously in Paris (through Oct 23) and Miami (through Jan 15) on October 19. The project highlights the results of Bakehouse’s “Triumphal Arch” Open Call.

This November, the campus also welcomes “Homegrown”, curated by Krys Ortega and René Morales, a group exhibition reimagining the gallery as a warm, lived-in home.

Opening Bakehouse Art Complex’s fall season is BAKEHOUSE @ COLDEFY / COLDEFY @ BAKEHOUSE, a dual-site exhibition created in partnership with international architecture and urbanism practice Coldefy [ @coldefy.fr ].

Opening simultaneously October 19, 2026 in Paris and Miami, the exhibition features all 23 submissions from Bakehouse’s Triumphal Arch Open Call, including four finalists and the winning proposal, The Porch, by Miami architects Elmer O. García and Olga Kusche-Iglesias.

Also opening at Bakehouse is Homegrown, curated by Krys Ortega and René Morales. Featuring approximately 32 Bakehouse artists, the exhibition explores a central question: How does a building become a home? Through painting, sculpture, furniture, installation, sound, performance, and more, Homegrown considers how artists shape community, culture, and our sense of place.

Last Saturday we gathered at The Collective 62 for a wood firing, an activation of Materia Viva, curated by @bonet.hekit with @pili.fer @benditobarrogres Pilar Fernandez Lerda tending the flame inside a kiln built by hand by Desiree de Ridder @desiree_deridder together with the Collective 62 community.
There’s something irreplaceable about this process — slow, attentive, communal. No switch to flip, no thermostat to set. The fire asks for presence, and everyone shows up for it. Wood firing doesn’t run on electricity or gas — it runs on time, intention, and people working together. That’s a different kind of energy entirely.
Artists, your pieces are ready for pickup at your convenience. Come by when you can!
Already looking forward to the next session. The kiln is waiting.

Materia Viva brings together works that engage clay as a living material — one that remembers, responds, and transforms. Shaped by touch, pressure, sound, and time, clay appears throughout the exhibition as body, as record, and as voice. Rather than treating clay as a passive medium, the works presented approach it as an active participant in processes of making, listening, and remembering.
Yesterday felt like exactly that. Thank you for activating it with us 🌿 The show is still on view and we’ll be firing March 21. Save the date !
