BOOKS OF REFERENCES.

These are two books we keep coming back to whenever we seek inspiration from Balinese ornaments.

Majapahit Style and Architecture of Bali, both by Made Wijaya, have become essential references for us.

For us, visiting temples, meeting local people, and experiencing the culture firsthand will always be the most meaningful way to connect and to understand Balinese traditions. But these books offer a wealth of knowledge and inspiration, helping us better understand the details we see along the way and opening doors to a deeper appreciation of the history, art, and architectural heritage.

Matur Suksma, Bli Made. 🙏🏽

A snippet of how the weekend has been! Thank you @malaccatattooconvention @bungaterung @cloveraidylla for the invite and organising this awesome event with all the great people of tattooing. It was nice to catch up with the tattoo friends I haven’t seen for awhile and also make new ones.

It was an honour to get to tattoo a set of palms for @saltyfred. Was such a pleasure to know you and thank you for not hating me after I was done torturing you. All the best for the adventures you set out for yourself in life! 🙇🏻‍♀️✨

I‘d also like to extend my gratitude to the good friends from @sacredbloomtattoo and @nevermore_tattoo_sg — the people who made this trip such a memorable one filled with laughter, good memories and so much wholesomeness. I had FOMO cos I couldn’t join the day activities but I’m so happy we all had a great time. Thanks for agreeing to go on this trip together 🥹🫶🏼

One of our old friends is coming back. He has guested at our shop since the very beginning but it’s been a while since he’s visited! Specialising in Balinese floral motifs, @adeitameda will be here from 6th-8th October. DM him directly for appointments, don’t miss out!

Some works lately.
Thank you to everyone who has trusted us so far.

At Sekala 369, we explore how Indonesian visual traditions can live through tattooing.

Whether the starting point comes from nature,
a personal story, or another culture, we always try to reinterpret it through an Indonesian visual language while respecting the original idea.

Terima kasih.

Semangat..! 💪🏽

ATTENDING ARTIST:
ADE ITAMEDA
INDONESIA 🇮🇩

10–11 October 2026
La Performs, Malacca City, Malaysia

@adeitameda

Ade Itameda is an Indonesian tattoo artist and the founder of @sekala369 in Bali.

Having lived and worked in the Netherlands for nearly a decade before returning to Indonesia, his artistic perspective has been shaped by both cultures, alongside his Chinese-Indonesian and Dutch-Indonesian heritage.

His work draws deeply from Indonesia’s rich visual traditions, particularly wood carvings, batik, wayang, and temple ornamentation. Through tattooing, @adeitameda reinterprets these historical motifs into contemporary compositions while remaining respectful of their cultural significance and origins.

Beyond tattooing, Ade is a passionate student of Indonesian art and culture. He enjoys researching, learning, and sharing the stories behind traditional ornamentation and craftsmanship.

Through his work, he hopes to build a bridge between heritage and contemporary expression, allowing these traditions to remain relevant and continue evolving for future generations.

Floral Batik Motifs

As I’ve learned, batik is a technique, much like tattooing.
With these designs, I’m exploring how flowers can be transformed into traditional batik forms and translated into tattoo designs.

I imagine drawing these flowers with a “canting”, working within the visual of batik through lines, bold outlines, and dots, while using tattoo shading to add depth and dimension.

The four flowers featured here are some of my mother’s favorites:
Melati, Mawar, Kemuning, and Lantana.

All designs are available for tattoo. 🤘🏽

Daily routine at the shop.
Tattooing, drawing, random Bali chats, listening to stories, complaints, ideas, and everything in between.
@adeitameda is back at the shop. If you'd like to make an appointment, feel free to send your request via email or simply drop by.
See you around.
Semangat 💪

From bold blackwork and neo-Balinese designs to minimalist fine-line tattoos, Bali’s tattoo scene is filled with artists pushing the boundaries of their craft.

More than just body art, tattooing on the island has become a medium for storytelling, cultural expression, and contemporary artistry.
