Why Your Practitioner’s Nervous System Matters in Your Healing

Healing isn’t just about what’s said—it’s about what’s felt. When you work with a therapist, coach, or practitioner who has deeply embodied somatic healing, you’re not just receiving guidance; you’re experiencing co-regulation in real time.

A regulated practitioner isn’t just someone who knows about trauma and nervous system work—they live it. They’ve done the deep inner work to anchor themselves in safety, so when you step into their presence, your nervous system begins to attune to theirs. This is how true healing happens—not through words alone, but through the felt sense of safety, attunement, and resonance.

If your practitioner is dysregulated, overwhelmed, or ungrounded, your nervous system feels that, too. But when they are steady, present, and anchored, your body begins to trust, to soften, to remember what safety feels like. And from that place, real transformation becomes possible.

This is why choosing a practitioner who has embodied their own healing work is so important. Because healing isn’t just taught—it’s transmitted.

I’m Writing a Book! I’m sharing my journey of healing and finding myself after trauma and abuse—a path from disconnection to wholeness.

It’s about rediscovering the parts of you that felt lost, reconnecting to your intuition, and stepping into your authentic self.

Drawing from my work with somatic healing, parts work and inner child work, and trauma-conscious practices, this book will share how to shift from living in survival mode to thriving as your whole, empowered self. It’s for anyone who’s felt broken, disconnected, or unsure of how to move forward after trauma.

Writing this feels both vulnerable and exciting, and I hope it can bring hope and healing to others.

Are there specific parts of the healing journey you’d like me to include? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Here’s to reclaiming who we are, together. ❤️

So much gratitude to my book mentor @wordwitchcc for helping get my story and message out to people who need it.

For 5 years, I didn’t even realize I was in an abusive marriage. The emotional manipulation, financial control, and constant invalidation were my norm. When I finally woke up to the reality of what I was enduring, it took another 5 years to muster the strength to leave.

I had to rebuild myself piece by piece—financially, emotionally, and mentally. I had to unlearn the lies I was told about my worth, my capabilities, and what I deserved.

Walking away wasn’t easy. It meant stepping into the unknown, and rebuilding my life from the ground up. But the moment I left my marital home, I made space for something new.

One month later, I met my ideal partner—a relationship rooted in love, respect, and mutual growth. I didn’t find him because I was “lucky.” I found him because I reclaimed my worth, did the work and chose to live in alignment with who I truly am.

For anyone feeling trapped in a similar cycle: I see you. It takes courage to even consider leaving, let alone follow through. But the life you deserve is waiting for you on the other side of fear.

Healing is possible. Love is possible. And freedom is worth every step of the journey. #divorcedaf

✨ As 2024 comes to a close, it’s time to reflect on the energy, beliefs, behaviors and patterns you’re ready to leave behind.

What no longer serves you?
🌿 Fear of being too much or not enough
🌿 Self-doubt that keeps you playing small
🌿 Old stories that hold you back from growth
🌿 People-pleasing at the expense of your truth
🌿 Resentment, shame, or comparison

Let this be your reminder: clearing space for alignment and authenticity will create room for the expansion waiting for you in 2025.

What are you letting go of? Share below—I’d love to hear. 💬

⠀
Three-Toed Sloth, Costa Rica.
⠀
Since my first visit to Costa Rica in 2016, I’ve been looking for a good shot of a Sloth, which I regard as my spirit animal. I’ve been in Sloth territory several times in Costa Rica, Ecuador, Peru, Colombia and Panama. I got to see them in most of those trips but from afar, very far away, hidden between foliage high up the tree tops.
⠀
That’s how it works with wildlife. There’s never a guarantee. This time, on my third visit to Costa Rica I got a good look of Sloths 3 times! One of them was during the rafting in the Sarapiquí river as we were about to finish the ride, a two-toed sloth was hanging from a branch in the river side. We went right next to it and it was carrying a baby! Unfortunately, my water camera was acting up, so that one was for my eyes only, but we did see three-toed slots with plenty of time for shooting.
⠀
Funny enough, it wasn’t precisely in a wild and remote area. One was hanging on the top of a road-side tree as we were riding our bus from Tortuguero to Sarapiquí. The one pictured here was just a little after, when Jimmy, our guide, excitedly met us as we came out of a beer run at a supermarket to show us the Sloth that would pose for us for over 10 minutes as we snapped away. 8 years later, got my shot, which is now my phone’s wallpaper!

Kayaking in Tortuguero, Costa Rica
⠀
The many canals that connect Rio Tortuguero with Laguna Penitencia, some of them built by the timber company through the 1900s to make it easy to move around, are home to so much wildlife, making them some of the greatest attractions here.
⠀
They often are explored by boat, but they can also be explored by kayak, drifting with the currents for a more intimate and peaceful experience with the surroundings.

Capuchin Monkey. Tortuguero, Costa Rica
⠀
Tortuguero is such a quaint little town. Founded in a sandbar in the early 1900s, for a long time its residents worked in timber and, of course, the exploitation of the 4 species of turtles that nest on its shores.
⠀
In the mid ‘90s, an American scientist began research in the turtles, and by the 70s, his work achieved protection of Tortuguero as a national park, convincing the residents that if they took care of their hard-shelled visitors, tourism would flourish here.
⠀
And so it has! While it remains a very tiny little town, there’s a good offer of services like restaurants, activities and accommodation for tourists who wish to escape to a remote little village in hopes of connecting with its nature and myriad wildlife, such as monkeys, river otters, basilisks, caimans and crocodiles, frogs, sloths, so many birds and, of course, the turtles.
⠀
This little guy, a Capuchin Monkey, posed for us eating his breakfast for more than 10 minutes during a morning walk around our Tortuguero home, Evergreen Lodge.

Tortuguero, Costa Rica
⠀
I’m back in the rainforest! This time exploring the Northeastern region of Costa Rica for the ATTA’s AdventureNext Costa Rica conference, hosted by @costaricatoptours. First stop, Evergreen Lodge in Tortuguero National Park!
⠀
Like many secluded places worth exploring, reaching it is a feat all by itself, involving a long, yet scenic bus ride through the Braulio Carrillo National Park to Caño Blanco dock, followed by another long, yet also very scenic ride on this big bus-like boat!
