Being a hairdresser is more than doing beautiful hair.

It’s the sacrifices, the late nights, the missed plans, the constant mental load and being the person who has to figure it all out.

And sometimes, the more successful you become, the lonelier it can feel.

Because not everyone understands the pressure of building something that’s entirely yours.

But we need to remember you don’t need to sacrifice your whole life you prove you’re serious about your business.

You can want success AND slow mornings. The fully booked diary AND time off. The big goals AND time off!

Being fully booked used to be the ultimate goal. And don’t get me wrong, it’s something I’m incredibly proud of.

But nobody really talks about what happens when you finally get there.

You spend years building your column, saying yes to every opportunity, squeezing people in, working late and sacrificing your days off because you’re so scared of losing the momentum you’ve worked so hard to build.

And then one day you realise you’ve built a career you absolutely LOVE, but you’ve barely left yourself any time to enjoy the life you’re working so hard for.

And here’s the thing...

Being in demand doesn’t mean you have to be available all the time.

I’m learning that being successful isn’t just about how full my diary is. It’s about having the freedom to choose what I do with my time.

Sometimes that means setting boundaries, saying no to appointments, charging properly for your time and accepting that you physically cannot do everything.

I’m still figuring this one out myself, because when you’ve worked so hard to get somewhere, slowing down can feel like going backwards.

But maybe the next level of success isn’t about doing MORE.

Maybe it’s about finally having the freedom to do LESS.

Hairdressers, are we all secretly exhausted or is it just me? 😂

Oxidative colour can look dramatically different while developing.

Judge the result after the correct processing time, rinsing and drying, rather than making assumptions based on how it looks in the bowl or on the hair.

Send this to the colourist who has a breakdown at the backwash every Tuesday, or send it back to me because I am that stylist, I am she 😂😂

Sometimes it’s not about buying another product or changing your toner. It’s about understanding the little details behind your placement and application.

This is one thing I always pay attention to when creating a softer more seamless blend:

- The amount of product you’re applying.

Too little and you’re not creating a blend you’re creating a messy smudge, too much product and it’s going to be slipping around everywhere and splashing onto your other colours.

Also!! When blending be purposeful and theatrical, trust me.

Save this for your next vivid colour appointment.

And somehow we’re still expected to know what ‘just a little change’ means 😂🫶🏻

Jesus Christ, baby stylist Kay would be QUAKING in her boots seeing how much product is on here..

And I can’t be the ONLY ONE who thought that more bleach meant more risk of breakage?

I mean if you’re applying bleach on bleach then yes, but I’m not talking about that..

I’m talking about bleach on natural hair. The sooner I learnt that proper saturation meant an even beautiful lift, the easier my life got 😂

I wasn’t bad at lifting hair, I was scared of saturating it!

Idiot.
