The Tinysaurs - The Rainbow Egg

Modern day Carebears and My Little Pony meets dinosaurs! This magical tale will draw children in from the beginning, as the prologue is in second person. My son was excited by the author speaking to him.

The tinysaurs must work together to take care of a cheeky baby dragon that hatches from a rainbow egg. The characters and adventures are sweet and a whole lot of fun!

Early primary school aged children will love this junior fiction series. The illustrations are colourful and a joy to look at.

A colourful adventure that will delight every tiny reader. I can see this as a fantastic new series on TV!

My 7 year old loves this series. Absolutely delightful!!

Thank you @scholastic_au.

Congratulations @sallyodgers

Gross Things Animals Eat by Dr Claire Stevens and Adele K Thomas 🦈 🦓 🪰

You know what’s gross? Some of the things that animals eat! 😳 And as the title suggests, this book is all about said grossness, and it is certainly not for the squeamish! It’s for the ones who enjoy interesting facts that have that yuck factor!

We know that koalas eat eucalyptus leaves, but did you know that baby koalas also eat their mother’s poo?

Or that the skua bird bothers other birds so much that they become so distressed that they vomit and then the skua eats that bird’s vomit? 😳

Or that the Galapagos tortoise only eats once a year (I thought I better end on a more palatable fact 🤣🐢)

These are just some of the facts that we have learned from this fascinating book! @drclairestevens ‘ s information is written in an engaging and child friendly manner that is easy to understand and @adelekthomas ‘s illustrations help to add humour the right level of “eww” to each page.

The book does a great job of explaining that all animal diets, no matter how gross they seem to us, provide the animals with the nutrients and minerals that they need to survive and to keep the ecosystem balanced.

This was a really well done and interesting read that animal lovers will be completely en’grossed’ in!

Thank you to @harperkidsau for our copy! #grossthingsanimalseat #animals #animalfacts #kidsnonfiction #nonfictionbooks

Gross Things Animals Eat (Claire Stevens, illus Adele K Thomas, HarperCollins)

Gross Things Animals Eat is packed with disgusting, bizarre and outrageous descriptions and illustrations that young readers aged 5 and up will absolutely love. Australian veterinarian Claire Stevens invites children to think like scientists, encouraging curiosity about strange animal eating behaviours and asking why creatures do such “revolting” things. Through this lens, readers come to understand that natural systems are interconnected and carefully balanced. Weird and wonderful animal facts abound. Who knew that great white sharks only eat every 3 months, that gorillas eat dirt to stop diarrhoea, or that baby koalas eat their mother’s poo? While Stevens makes it clear that human children shouldn’t eat poo or scavenge in bins, she stresses that people can help protect animals and their habitats by reducing the amount of rubbish they produce. Although the book’s language is fun and friendly, Stevens breaks down scientific concepts in a way that is easy to grasp without oversimplifying. Adele K Thomas’s quirky illustrations add colour and humour to each page. Gross Things Animals Eat offers plenty of opportunities to laugh, groan or shudder in horror. Ultimately, it also places humans firmly within the web of nature we share with creepy crawlies, birds, reptiles, sea creatures and the animals living all around us.
