🌍⚓️ CROSSING THE EQUATOR! 🌊☀️

Today was one of those unforgettable moments at sea onboard Celebrity Solstice — we officially crossed the Equator, the imaginary line at 0° latitude that divides our planet into the Northern and Southern Hemispheres! 🌎✨

But crossing the Equator on a cruise ship isn’t just about passing an invisible line on the map. It’s also a maritime tradition that has been celebrated by sailors for generations. Ships often mark the occasion with a special “Equator Crossing” or “Crossing the Line” ceremony, turning a geographical milestone into a fun and memorable celebration. ⚓️🥳

As the ship sailed across this important line, we were surrounded by nothing but the vast ocean — a beautiful reminder of just how incredible our planet is. 🌊🌅 There’s something pretty special about knowing that, at that exact moment, we were moving from one hemisphere into the other!

Traditionally, sailors who have never crossed the Equator are known as “pollywogs”, while those who have crossed it before are called “shellbacks.” 🐸🐚 The ceremony often involves plenty of laughter, music, costumes, games and playful nautical traditions as the “pollywogs” are welcomed into the ranks of the “shellbacks.”

Of course, modern cruise celebrations can vary from ship to ship, but the spirit remains the same: celebrating adventure, the sea, and the incredible places our journeys take us. 🌍💙

Standing on a ship in the middle of the ocean, knowing we had just crossed one of the most significant lines on Earth, was definitely a moment worth celebrating. 🥂⚓️

From one hemisphere to the other — what an incredible experience! 🌎❤️
