What an incredible seminar last Saturday with Miguel Romero all the way from Galicia! 🥋🔥

Amazing newaza, great technical details, and an even better person to share the mats with. We are grateful for the opportunity to learn, train, and exchange judo with such a talented judoka and coach.

Thank you, Miguel, for bringing your knowledge and great energy to Griffin Judo. We hope to have you back on the mats again soon! 🙏🏼🥋

🥋🇯🇵 The Kodokan is truly the home of international Judo.

As Koriya sensei from the Kodokan shared with Cody Sensei and Jonathan Sensei, it is the responsibility of the Kodokan and of every Sensei who has the privilege of learning there, to continue learning, growing, and sharing Judo with others.

Judo is much more than a martial art. It is a way of life, built on the values and principles that Jigoro Kano sensei envisioned: continuous learning, mutual welfare and benefit, and the pursuit of personal growth.

It is our responsibility to carry that spirit forward and share it with the next generation. 🙏🏼🥋❤️

I’m truly honored to have received my IJF Instructor’s Certification at the Kodokan. It has been my biggest dream to rise to the highest level I personally can accomplish in Judo. I am not an Olympian or World Champion, though there were plenty of those in my class with me. I am, however, a Sensei and student of Judo. I specifically am loyal to Kano’s vision of Judo: a way to continuously grow as a human being in the world. Jita Kyoei and Seiryoku Zen’yo are at the heart of my belief system. I am so grateful to all of my Sensei, Training Partners, my dojo, and all others who have helped me grow to my current state. I promise I will continue to grow. I was asked by all of my instructors to keep studying Judo, to keep giving back to what’s given me so much. It’s not the first time an Olympian has asked this of me as they promoted me. When I received my Shodan from Kevin Asano he asked the same of me. I am eternally grateful to my Senseis Gordon and Lucy Makimoto for giving me the foundation that I have built my entire career on. Also to my partners Adham Ramadan and Jonathan Cotte for us making this possible. I am also extremely grateful to my fiancé Sierra for always supporting me on this journey.

Another unforgettable day of training in Japan! 😁🇯🇵🥋

Our Griffin teens had an incredible practice with the amazing young judoka from Asahi Dojo in Yokohama. Thank you so much to Sensei Asahi for your warm hospitality, and a special thank you to Sensei Anzu (@anzu.yamamoto0618) for making this wonderful connection possible. We had an absolute blast on and off the tatami!

As if the day couldn’t get any better, we were also lucky enough to be visited by @takato_official and take a few photos with him. Meeting one of the greatest Japanese and international judoka of all time was an unforgettable experience and an inspiration for our entire team.

Every day in Japan seems to bring another incredible memory. We truly feel so fortunate to be here! ❤️🥋🇯🇵
