Two weeks ago, our Adoptee Programs Coordinator, Maddie Gustafson, represented The Park at the 2026 @wearekaan conference. From sharing stories, to meaningful sessions and panels, to laughing over good food, the weekend was full, in the best way.

This year, The Park was able to take part in the Leadership Summit with other leaders from adoptee organizations across the community. Discussions about what leadership within your own community looks like, collaboration, and the future of adoptee-led work were powerful and inspiring. This opportunity was a reminder of how much strength there is in the broader adoptee community and how much there is to learn from each other as we all show up for adoptees in different ways.

The Park is grateful for the chance to learn, listen, and build relationships that will only make this community stronger. Thank you to KAAN for hosting such a meaningful gathering. ❤️

Last week, I had the opportunity to connect with Korean adoptee leaders from around the world at OKA’s gathering in Seoul. This government-sponsored event provided space to hear directly from government organizations working on issues that impact adoptees. We also engaged in discussions to share perspectives, develop ideas, and offer policy recommendations that we hope can support Korean adoptees both overseas and in Korea.

Most meaningful of all was the opportunity to build relationships, exchange ideas, and strengthen connections within the community. I am leaving this experience encouraged, inspired, and deeply hopeful about the continued collaboration and momentum toward meaningful change for Korean adoptees.

The Seonbi Jumeoni (선비주머니) is a traditional Korean pouch once carried by scholars (seonbi) to hold tobacco and other small essentials. 📢 The U.S. and South Korean governments have a responsibility to repair the harm they have done to adoptees through irresponsible and inhumane intercountry adoption practices. There are some tangible steps they can take to express accountability, the main buckets of which are:

1️⃣ Honor the Hague Adoption Convention Information Preservation and Access Provision

2️⃣ Create and Expand Resources to Reunite Adoptees with Birth Families

3️⃣ Reform the National Center for Rights of Children (NCRC) to Serve Adoptees, Not Agencies

4️⃣ Specific to U.S. Government: Resolve Citizenship Gap and Advocate for Reform
