La Taqueria’s minimalist restaurant is located at West Hastings and Seymour, in the heart of Downtown Vancouver.
Spanning 1,800 square feet, the innovative yet authentic taqueria masterfully blends minimalist design with Mexican-inspired earthy tones, all enhanced by natural light pouring through towering floor-to-ceiling windows on three sides. With seating for up to fifty guests, including both indoor and outdoor options, the space creates a strong sense of community and openness.
Above the dining area, the mezzanine kitchen features a vertical rotisserie, offering diners a tantalizing view of the cooking process.

A calm, layered interior brought to life through texture, tone, and cratt.
The walls feature our Microcement Fine in a medium texture, applied in a two-tone effect using untinted plaster paired with **140 Morning Dew**. The subtle contrast adds depth while maintaining the soft, tranquil palette that defines the space. A matte polyurethane sealer completes the walls, preserving the natural mineral look while providing long-term durability.
The flooring was a more complex transformation. The existing wood shiplap required a full reinforcement system before the finish could be applied. We installed HardieBacker board, followed by Armour Mesh and EIFS mesh to create a stable base. From there, the system was built up with three layers of Microcement Base Coat and two layers of Microcement Fine.
The final finish includes two layers of **Color Top water-based stain in Pewter**, sealed with Poly Seal Low Sheen and protected with two coats of Poly WB Low Sheen for a resilient, architectural finish designed for commercial traffic.
A project where technical performance meets understated design.

We are thrilled and honoured to congratulate @dhk.architects on being recognized as a WL Design 25 winner: The Right Angle for IDS Vancouver 2025 Central Bar, In/Tension. Designed by Jessica Yarish and Paul Koopman of dHKarchitects and built by @adprojectsinc, this installation was inspired by the interplay between purpose-built structures and material reuse.

Constructed using only gravity and tension, the raw dimensional lumber provided by @kerrisdalelumber remains completely intact for future use. Featuring a stunning 12-foot sculpture, 'Bjorn,' by @brentcomberoriginals, the installation transformed everyday materials into a remarkable space for connection and reflection.

This collaborative effort brought together an exceptional team, including @flowerhouse.studios, @poliformvancouver, and @rjcrossarchitectural, to create something truly extraordinary. As the central bar during IDS Vancouver, In/Tension offered a unique space for gathering and pausing amidst the busy showroom floor.

Congratulations to everyone who contributed to the award-winning In/Tension Central Bar.
