1. Wildlife that casually walks across the road.
2. Some of the best riding roads I’ve found in Africa.
3. Genuinely warm, welcoming people.

I just rode 3,200km through Namibia, Botswana and Zambia. Here are the highlights:

📍 Bwabwata National Park – My first taste of Botswana-style wildlife. Elephants, buffalo and endless roads through the bush.

🦁 Mababe – Where a safari turned into an adventure after the vehicle lost a wheel… before we found a pride of lions.

🐘 Savuti – One of Africa’s greatest wildlife destinations. Big cats, elephants and the feeling that anything could happen.

🛶 Mokoro on the Okavango Delta – Gliding silently through the reeds with nothing but birdsong and the occasional hippo nearby.

🌅 Maun – The gateway to the Okavango and the perfect place to recharge before the next adventure.

🚁 Helicopter over the Delta – The best way to appreciate just how enormous and untouched the Okavango really is.

🐘 Elephant Sands – Watching elephants wander past while you’re sat having a drink never gets old.

🌳 Planet Baobab – Giant ancient trees, quirky vibes and one of the coolest campsites I’ve stayed at.

🐊 Chobe River – Huge elephant herds, hippos, crocodiles and one of the best sunset cruises in Africa.

🌍 Kazungula – Standing at the point where Zambia, Botswana, Namibia and Zimbabwe all meet.

🪢 Victoria Falls Bungee – 111 metres of pure commitment off one of the world’s most iconic bridges.

🌊 White Water Rafting the Zambezi – The wildest rafting I’ve ever done. Big rapids, big swims and even bigger adrenaline.

🌅 Victoria Falls Bridge at Sunrise – Worth getting up early for. Quiet, misty and an incredible view before the crowds arrive.

💦 Victoria Falls – The perfect way to finish this leg of the journey. Photos don’t come close to doing it justice.

Where should I ride next?

The road to Mababe…

I set off expecting another long day on the bike…

Instead I passed elephants, springbok, a hippo, and even had a helicopter takeoff.

Botswana just refuses to be boring.

I rode for 7 months and 40,000km through West Africa from the UK to Cape Town here are the total costs.

Fuel is fairly essential, the cost per litre varied massively with Angola providing by far the cheapest fuel.
Total $2,367

Visas are not cheap in this part of the world and crossing 18 borders isn’t easy.
Total $1285

A mixture of wild camping, campsites and hotels and hostels meant our average cost for accommodation was just over 10 usd a day. Not bad hey.
Total $2111

Bike repairs, sometimes even with a Tenere things need fixing. The majority of this cost was replacing and repairing my rear shock which was not a Yamaha original. Another big cost was tyres.
Total $977

Food; combining street food with restaurants we didn’t really cook for ourselves much. I haven’t included the money we spent on beer, it would be much higher.
