Opening tonight 8/28 @urbanartmemphis starting 6pm CDT!

Incredibly grateful to be included in this show filled with work by awesome artists that Isaiah Kennedy @cleatx1000 curated! I'm so sad I can't be there tonight for the opening but I'm sending all my love from Baltimore. If you're in Memphis, stop by and check out the show! It's gonna be a great one.

My work in this show is a series of small saggar fired ceramic "sketches" and guides that I made in quick succession to explore new forms and ideas during my last semester @uofm_art_and_design . They were a ton of fun to make and I hope y'all enjoy!

This Friday!

“This exhibition is titled “The Third Hand” . Inspired by Philip Guston’s words regarding how the spirit of creativity moves through you, this body of work shows the different ways the human figure acts as a catalyst for said creativity. This idea is explored through a variety of mediums including painting, sculpture, drawing, collage, ceramics, and many more.”

I’m so pumped to be apart of this awesome show curated by Isaiah Kennedy @cleat.art with so many kick ass artists. Opening is from 6-9 at the UAC @urbanartmemphis ! Poster designed by @beatrixdoesart ‼️

Reliquary: A Correspondence Comps 9-12. For this body of work, we were sent an archive from @mersadiesburch of photos, documents, news clippings, and postcards from @thesterick, and we were set loose to explore its 29 floors - we snagged ledgers, peeled wallpaper, took photographs. The series that resulted was made entirely from these findings; each collage made with images from within the building and its history, and each poem written only with the words banked from transcribing these documents.

Artist statement: Reliquary is an exploration of the historic Sterick Building in Memphis, Tennessee. This body of work includes collaged and poetic works studying the story of the Sterick Building, the city of Memphis, and what the future holds for both these places. These pieces were made by pouring through archival materials from the building’s past; all collages and poems are composed entirely out of relics — images and words found in articles, postcards, ledgers and signs, or discovered by exploring the building itself. These works open a portal to the past, both personal and cultural, and contend with the following questions — in the near century since the Sterick building was erected, what has changed? And what has stayed the same?

A few more photos from mine and @icosa_woodworks class @arrowmont_school. It was a great week. I’m so amazed I get to do this! I have to pinch myself every once in a while to make sure it’s real. However, it is a dream come true.

Ready for studio stroll @arrowmont_school. Everyone can visit all the different studios tonight. @icosa_woodworks and my students have been very busy this week. We have loved watching them come up with these ideas and helping them make it happen. It’s been a very good week.

It’s been a ruff day in the wood shop. Students are making more boxes. Tomorrow they will be introduced to color! Still more making, carving, painting and flocking. By the way, the student was just resting, she didn’t fall out.
