Over the weekend I had the pleasure of showing in Greece on the island of Patmos performing “Cleaning”. Thelonious Stokes mops the space with charcoal-infused water. Through the repetitive gesture of cleaning, charcoal is diluted and dispersed across a space, transforming an act of removal into an act of accumulation. It feels special because Patmos is apparently the island where John the apostle saw God and wrote the Book Of Revelation. Earlier this year I climbed Mount Sinai where Moses received the commandments.
