What happens when two dancers hear the same music and interpret it through movement together?

For this installment of Sound In Motion, @wonderwithlumi and @tuca.com.t take us inside their interpretation of “My Emotional Guitar” by Mörda.

Through Brazilian Zouk, they explore the connection between music, movement, and each other. We love discovering how different artists hear the music, what inspires their movement, and how they bring their interpretations to life.

What did Lumi and Tuca hear in “My Emotional Guitar”? Let’s hear it from them.

THE KUDURO FILM 🎬 Kuduro is a music genre and dance style that originated in Angola in the 1990s, particularly in Luanda. It is characterized by fast-paced electronic rhythms, powerful movements, and immense creativity. Over the years, it has become a symbol of Angolan culture, gaining recognition both at home and abroad. For Sound In Motion by @afroconex, I was invited to interpret music from Asante IV through my own movement and creative perspective.

Here I take you inside Sbhujwa interpretation of “Ayo Yo” by Mörda and Chronical Deep and share a little about what I heard in the music and how it shaped my movement. This is a duo prepared interpretation piece (@khilibo_jack), unfortunately my dance partner wasn't available for the shoot to interpret the beautiful work with me.

This is what I heard in “Ayo Yo.”

The second installment in our SOUND IN MOTION: Interpretations of Asante IV project comes from South African dancer @itshuprince_sa

He is a dancer we deeply admire. Dancers are often told to evolve, chase trends, or find ways to incorporate them into their style. But Itshu continues to explore and evolve within his own roots, keeping Itsbujwa part of the conversation as South African urban dance continues to change.

Here we see his interpretation of “Ayo Yo” from Mörda’s Asante IV album.

What did Itshu hear in “Ayo Yo”? This.

To learn more about Itshu and his dance, check out our interview through the link in bio.
