Συναυλία the AfroGreeks: Remember This Song Παρασκευή 25/4 | 20:30 Δημόσια δράση του συλλογικού έργου σε εξέλιξη the AfroGreeks της ομάδας Døcumatism όπου οι πρωταγωνιστές του έργου δημιουργούν μια μουσική παράσταση αφιερωμένη στον Αφρο-Αμερικανό συγγραφέα και ακτιβιστή James Baldwin για τα 101 χρόνια απο την γέννηση του. Afro-Greek artists “take over” the Olympia Municipal Music Theatre – Maria Callas, welcome the spring, and invite the people of Athens to actively participate in a musical dialogue. Through the use of moving image, the performance highlights the many ways tradition influences the creation of musical identity, enriching it to transcend the boundaries of place. 📍 Olympia Municipal Music Theatre “Maria Callas” (59 Akadimias St, Athens 10679) #theAfroGreeks #jamesbaldwin  @olympia.city.music.theatre @opanda.gr

Djoko: Urban Sounds of Africa Festival. 14-15 September Our festival celebrates the work, life, art and culture of the African diaspora and communities in Athens. ‘Djoko’ means encounter, gathering, sharing in the West African Wolof language. For us, it captures the synergies of our festival, which is co-organised by Youmame Africa, KAYY Music Collaboration, Afrosocially, Kélenya and Decolonising the City. We bring together street musicians, filmmakers, academics, and various projects from African communities to explore questions of identity and belonging in Athens through African art and culture in diaspora. Djoko also encapsulates and highlights the coalitions needed at the urban level to allow for the cultural plurality of the city and to decolonise our understandings of identity and belonging. Djoko Festival will take place in Plateia Protomagias and Zoetrope, an independent artist-run space, September 14-15. Free entry - we cannot sell drinks so bring your drinks and water! @boom_jef @kenenya_athens @lareinavalicina @afrosocially @gracy_ace @sofie.mkv @liluhax @papoutsi_anna @zandileciousness @zoetrope.athens @lithafoster @arisspts @artofsoulofficial @twinsanityofficial @override_crash @vanabaafrika xmxiixmx

We’re still on a high after visiting Athens for a very special sold out screening event of four films included in our We Rebuild, We Reclaim International programme, supported by the British Council. We were hosted by the wonderful teams at Afrosocially and We Are Community and sat on a panel with filmmaker Joy Gharoro Akpojotor to talk through the themes of some the films shown and our wider work. With music and a brilliant movement performance, this was exactly how we wanted these films to be presented to audiences around the world. A massive thanks to all the filmmakers, Joy, Dina, Precious, Grace, and their teams and to everyone who came out…Athens, we’ll be back! 📸 @aggelos_barai

Τhank you all for joining yesterday for “We Rebuild, We Reclaim” event in Athens. 🇯🇲 In the heart of Athens, a vibrant cultural tapestry was woven through the collective spirit of the African diaspora community. This powerful coming together not only celebrated unity but also envisioned a future where Black theatre, cinema, and arts thrived, leaving an indelible mark on the city’s cultural landscape. 🇯🇲 The power of coming together with the African diaspora community in Athens lies in our collective ability to celebrate unity and envision a future where Black theatre, cinema, and arts flourish. Through shared experiences and collaborative efforts, we can build a cultural landscape that is inclusive, dynamic, and inspiring. 🇯🇲 As we look to the future, let us continue to support and uplift Black artists, creators, and storytellers, ensuring that their voices are heard and their contributions are celebrated. Together, we can create a brighter, more equitable future for all.
