In Hugh Hefner’s final years, I was still deeply conditioned to put his needs above my own. I spent years trying to keep him happy, caring for him, and treating him with kindness and respect.

At the time, I hadn’t yet come to terms with the extent of the harm he had caused women, including myself. I was still living under the influence of someone I now recognize as deeply manipulative and harmful.

It took time and distance to understand what I had been a part of and what had happened to me.

I look back at this version of myself with compassion. She was doing what she had been conditioned to do, long before she understood what she was surviving. 🤍
