Municipal Bonds is excited to announce the gallery’s return to FOG Design+Art in 2027, with a solo presentation of new work by Afton Love titled "Taos/Tamalpais." A Northern California native and graduate of California College of the Arts, Love brings the landscape of the Bay Area into dialogue with the high desert of New Mexico, where she now lives and works. Across drawing and sculpture, she considers the passage of time, from the fleeting movement of ocean waves to the geological forces that have shaped the land over eons. For advance inquiries, please contact info@municipalbonds.art. @fogfair January 21–24, 2027 FOG FOCUS Pavilion Fort Mason Center, San Francisco — Portrait of @aftonlove by @andrewpaynterphotography #municipalbonds #aftonlove #fogfair2027

One week at Kintsugi in Siran, France: short, intense, and almost unbelievably happy. 🥐 Two photoshoots, a rock quarry that made me feel tiny, a dolmen within walking distance, an open house on the last day, and a visit to the filming location of Betty Blue (37°2 le matin), the movie I’ve watched more than any other. Artists may be a little broken pieces, and Garth is the gold that holds them together. ✨ Full story on the blog (link in bio).

"I am interested in the psychological Jungian interpretation of Prima Materia as the "projection of the unconscious." Jung posits that in order to begin—in order to see ourselves clearly—we must realize the role each of us personally plays in what we see, and come to terms with the fact that we create the reality in which we live. Aurum is Latin for gold. Gorgeous works on porcelain and bronze at @municipalbonds by @aftonlove - clay molds made directly land formations in New Mexico, then cast into porcelain delicacies and selectively cast in bronze. Her work extended into a number of earth based material such as mica and earth pigments. Gorgeous 🙏🏽

It has been a little over a week since I returned from my three-month trip. I’ve started looking back at the photographs I made, and I’m realizing they might be the best souvenirs I could have brought home. I’ve pretty much given up trying to post everything in order or right away. I seem to need time—to sit with an experience, daydream about it, and revisit it a few times before I can finally put it into words. So... even though I’m already back home in Hawaii, here’s a story from my last residency in southern France. By the time I arrived there, I was still thinking about clothes... Then I met Afton. ✨ New blog post: Old Clothes on a New Body https://kazumisakurai.com/old-clothes-on-a-new-body/ 日本語は英語の後にあります🙏

Hi everyone! We’re Afton and Tessa - the sisters behind Swayback Books🪁 And now Swayback has a Substack! We are very early days in this adventure into independent publishing, but we’d love for you to follow along as we revel in all things kids' books. We’ll interview creatives, muse about good books, and let you in on the process and practice of making one ourselves! Our first post is a little Q&A with us, Afton and Tessa Love. We chit chat about who we are now, what we were like as kids, and what led us to Swayback. Check out the link in our bio, and thanks as always for following along!

"A horizon is interesting because it is an edge completely defined by point of view. I want to make work that has no single point of view—to make something that reveals itself as you move around it. Surfaces you can dive into, surfaces that limit perception or distort it, surfaces that hover as thresholds between states of being."—@aftonlove Afton Love Surface Horizon (Raise) - Diptych, 2025 Micaceous clay and graphite on silk organza, walnut frame 36 x 21 inches each, x2 — #municipalbonds #aftonlove #micaceous #clay #graphite #silk #surface #horizon #raise
