It was a privilege to be able to sit down with @afzalkhanmcr 🌹this afternoon at the British Muslim Heritage Centre

As one of our Constituency MP’s at Manchester Met 🐝, and an MP with one of the highest % of students as constituents in the whole country, our first meeting was not only about how we can work together to represent students regionally, but nationally too.

We discussed Student Loans, Climate Change, Dual GP Registration for Students, AI and much more.

Looking forward to working closely together throughout my term as President.

We asked @afzalkhanmcr about whether the government’s definition of anti-Muslim hatred could end up policing free speech criticisms of Islam as a religion, faith and associated beliefs or practices. Muslims make up around 6% of the UK population but receive 45% of religious hate crimes. The @britishmuslimtrust has recorded an average of 1 attack on a place of worship every day.

What do you think?

We were out campaigning for our brilliant Labour candidate, @cllrbevcraig for Greater Manchester Mayor! 🏙️✨

It was fantastic to be joined by @afzalkhanmcr , @andrew.western.mp , @jeffsmithmp , alongside so many dedicated councillors, members and volunteers, all working hard to spread Labour’s message across the city. Great energy, a great team, and plenty of momentum on the ground!

Bev Craig is a councillor and Leader of Manchester City Council, with a strong track record of delivering for our communities. As Mayor, she’ll continue that work for all the diverse communities across Greater Manchester.

🗳️ Greater Manchester goes to the polls on Thursday, 30 July in what is the UK’s biggest ever by-election, with 3 million people eligible to vote. If you have a vote, please use it — and remember to bring physical ID with you.

Last Friday, the @britishmuslimtrust was delighted to welcome leaders and stakeholders from across policing, government, local authorities, education, faith institutions, community organisations and civil society to the @thebmhc in Manchester for our Stakeholder Roundtable Forum.

The date had initially been given to us by our supporter the then Mayor of Greater Manchester @andy.burnham and @deputymayorofgm Kate Green to help launch the British Muslim Trust in the North of England - however his circumstances had changed as we all know and the Trust looks forward to working with him in his new role.

The event focused on the findings and recommendations of our report alongside @britishfuture , Understanding Anti-Muslim Hostility – Foundations for Action, and provided an important opportunity to discuss how we can work together to address anti-Muslim hostility and strengthen community cohesion.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who joined us and contributed so openly and thoughtfully. A special thank you to Assistant Chief Constable of @gtrmanchesterpolice Matt Boyle, @afzalkhanmcr CBE MP, @hannahtheplumbermcr MP, Jake Puddle and Dr Avaes Mohammad from @britishfuture, and @cllr_nazia_rehman, Leader of @wigancouncil and representing @greatermcr, whose insights helped shape a constructive and forward-looking discussion.

The energy, expertise and shared commitment in the room reinforced that tackling anti-Muslim hostility requires collaboration across sectors. The publication of the report is just the beginning, and the teams looks forward to continuing this work with partners to turn its recommendations into meaningful action.

Thank you to everyone who attended and supported the event. We look forward to continuing the conversation in the months ahead.

P.s massive shoutout to the wonderful students at @manchesterislamicgrammarschool for their brilliant volunteering on the evening and to @podlounge.uk for capturing the event 👏🏼

Delighted to join Bev Craig today as she launches her campaign to for Mayor - alongside Andy Burnham and Lucy Powell.

Bev’s been an incredible Labour leader of Manchester City Council and will make a fantastic mayor for us all.

Her bold ‘Our Pass’ expansion would give free bus travel for all 11-to-18-year-olds right across Greater Manchester. 🐝🚌

✋🛑Residents are urged to park responsibly and considerately. Blocking an alleyway or pavement causes serious inconvenience for pedestrians, wheelchair users, emergency access, and local residents.

Please think before you park obstructing pavements or alleyways may constitute an offence and enforcement action can be taken. Let’s work together to keep our streets safe and accessible for everyone.🫶

Andy Burnham is an experienced politician, and many people feel stronger leadership is needed to tackle the cost of living crisis. Rising household bills, food prices and housing pressures continue to affect families across the country, so there is growing demand for practical solutions and support for working people.
