This is my genuine reaction to being at the bottom of TAG hall (tennessee, alabama, georgia) at the base of the deepest cave pit in america; Fantastic pit. Excuse my language but listen to the echos. I rappelled the 500ft smokey pit to get here on 4 steel rack bars. Rope was muddy asf. Initially went the wrong way from smokey and ended up exploring deeper in the cave because spinning down the rope got my sense of direction all screwed up. Found the pit bouncer cave register and signed it. Was solo while everyone else was doing smokey II

Exploring and climbing around on the abandoned sawmill in Cass WV. Visible from the 219, it was founded in 1901 by the West Virginia Pulp and Paper Company (now MeadWestvaco), Cass was built as a company town to serve the needs of the men who worked in the nearby mountains cutting spruce and hemlock for the West Virginia Spruce Lumber Company, a subsidiary of WVP&P. At one time, the sawmill at Cass was the largest double-band sawmill in the world. It processed an estimated 1.25 billion board feet (2,900,000 m³) of lumber during its lifetime.

Once a symbol of the economic power that drove this valley, the mill building has been victim of two major fires in 1978 and 1982. Now only twisted steel and rusted machinery remain amid the cracking cement. Trees and vines grow in a place where humans once toiled among the machines of lumber and fine wood products production.

Pov: Youre a cave entrance and I just found you after years of research. This one was icy.

Cave entrances are difficult to find online and in person as they are gatekept by the caving community. This helps keep traffic in the caves low and preserves the cave from vandalism and formation breakage and removal. Many cave entrances are small and barely wide enough for a human to pass through and are found by word of mouth. When im not busy caving with my friends or in general, Ill drive out by myself to the areas where I know certain cave systems exist, speak with locals, knock on doors, use lidar maps to examine karst terrain, and just walk the land. There is no end to my searches, and I find immense satisfaction in finding what im looking for and going deeper.
