Some stills from ‘RENEGADE,’ which premieres on Friday, December 18. The film explores the aftereffects of imperialism, conquest, genocide, civil war, immigration, assimilation, and the loss of Latin American culture and religion. The film uses the imagery of eggs, fruit, crosses, and devil horns. The image of the American flag, representing assimilation, is initially comforting but later smothering. This is a common experience among immigrant groups.

🚨Please watch it on a bigger screen since it has subtitles!🚨

La Diaspora Festival presents a benefit show with Banda sin Nombre and The Genie SF, in the newly reopened Amado's music venue (the old Viracocha space). Come support the project and celebrate with us!

La Diaspora Festival is an International Cultural Festival bringing 20 artists from San Francisco to Puebla, Mexico in November of 2019. The goal is to create cultural bridges between the artists from immigrant communities living in the US and bringing and Latin America.

La Banda Sin Nombre is a five-piece street band from San Francisco's Mission District dedicated to performing folk music from around the world. Mixing rich vocal harmonies with acoustic instruments including guitar, fiddle, charango, cajon, and bass, the band's inspirations range from Peruvian chicha to Catalan rumba and Appalachian old time to cumbia. Featuring Shane Zal-Diva, a local drag performer and transgender rights activist also known as the Pop Up Drag Queen.

The Genie is an avant-garde guitarist, live-looping innovator, and performer from San Francisco.

[pictured is a series of photos of an altar at regina's door, a vintage clothing store. the altar has red and orange bangles, a doll decorated with flowers among other trinkets and treasures. the second photo is the cover title of the film, listing "love never fails us." the final photo features regina's front window which has her store name and a reflection of the oakland blue summer sky.] 🔮
