Who’s your Coach?!?

Middle Child…..

We have to pause this fine Sunday and take a moment to appreciate my MIDDLE CHILD @jada_.ken

Now, I know many of y’all see my firstborn @jcf.aesthetics all over my page and probably think I have a favorite. WRONG! My firstborn is simply the one who cooperates with the camera, takes pictures with me, and actually sends them to me!

But TODAYYYYY! I got this picture of my middle child at the @ugaathletics game, and BABY, it took my breath away!

Y’all have to give me some credit because ONE THING ABOUT ME, I MAKE SOME BEAUTIFUL CHILDREN! And the best part? She’s just as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside.

Now, don’t let that pretty face fool you. She is a MIDDLE CHILD in every sense of the word! If you know, YOU KNOW! She has mastered the art of middle child behavior at the highest level, and I promise you, she keeps me on my toes!

So y’all show my baby some love and drop some hearts because today she’s getting her moment!
And yes, I’m taking full credit for these genes. I did my BIG ONE with TeamFoster!

One of the things I love most about being in nature is how easily it brings me back to the present moment. I find myself paying attention to all the little things around me. The sounds, the movement, the textures, the way the light hits the trees. Things I probably wouldn’t even notice if I was caught up in my own head.

And I think that’s what I appreciate so much about mindfulness. It’s an opportunity to get out of our heads for a moment and actually experience what’s happening around us.

I’ve been recognizing more and more just how much of our emotional experience comes from the stories we create around things. We replay conversations, worry about things that haven’t happened, and sometimes work ourselves up over situations that aren’t even happening in the present moment. And the wild thing is, our bodies can respond to those thoughts as if we’re actually experiencing them.

Something I’ve been practicing is learning to separate the actual problems in my life from all the thinking I do ABOUT those problems. Because they’re not always the same thing.

Being present doesn’t make our responsibilities or challenges disappear. But it does give us an opportunity to notice our thoughts without getting so wrapped up in them.

And sometimes that little bit of space is enough to shift our entire perspective.

Just another reason you’ll always find me wandering around in nature, staring at trees and getting distracted by the tiniest things. 🌿

Now listen, as a global traveler, I’ve been blessed to experience some of the most beautiful hotels and incredible hospitality around the world. But one thing for certain and two things for sure, luxury is one thing, but making somebody feel like HOME? Baby, that’s a whole different level!

And that’s exactly what @thedelborough in Lagos, Nigeria did for me!

From the moment I arrived, the hospitality was absolutely phenomenal! The attention to detail, the warmth, the service, EVERYTHING! Because let’s be clear, a beautiful hotel is nice, but how you make people FEEL is what keeps them coming back!

And at this point, please don’t invite me to your country if you’re not going to have my flags flying, my face on a billboard, and a car waiting with my name on it! I mean, is that too much to ask? Apparently NOT!

A few little reflections from my birthday camping trip.

Life has felt like a lot lately. Beautiful, difficult, exciting, uncertain, expansive…all of it. And somewhere in the middle of everything, I feel like I’m getting better at actually being here for my own life.

Noticing what’s good. Letting people love me. Playing. Creating. Spending time outside. Being present. Trusting myself a little more. Taking things a little less seriously.

I don’t have everything figured out, but I really love the life I’m creating.

I definitely feel like I’ve lived a lot of life already.

I’ve spent so many years pushing through things, accomplishing the next thing, taking care of people, trying to be strong, trying to make sense of everything that has happened to me. This past year I’ve started realizing how much of my healing is actually learning how to live outside of survival.

I’m learning to listen to myself more. To listen to my body. To say what I’m feeling even when my voice shakes. To stop abandoning parts of myself just to make other people comfortable. To have boundaries and still keep my heart open. To rest without feeling like I need to earn it.

I’m also realizing how much healing I find in really simple things. Being outside. Moving my body. Making art. Playing. Traveling. Loving people. Sitting by water. Climbing trees. Watching the sun come up. Doing things simply because they make me feel alive.

At 36, I don’t feel like I have everything figured out. I actually think I have more questions than I used to lol. But I know myself more deeply than I ever have.

I know what matters to me.
I know how I want my life to feel.
And I trust myself a whole lot more to figure out the rest as I go.

Here’s to 36 🌵

I remember a time on social media when I made a post and referred to Amber as “my adopted daughter.”
Baby, the internet was in an UPROAR.

I don’t even remember what the original post was about, but I definitely remember the comments. People acted like saying “adopted daughter” was something horrible, something taboo, something I should be ashamed to say.

Fast forward to today, and the world has evolved. Now we celebrate the beauty of choosing to love a child you didn’t physically give birth to with a love so deep, there is no difference where it matters.

But here’s what people never understood about why I’ve always proudly said “my adopted daughter.”
It was never about separating Amber from my other children. It was about honoring her story.
I have always had tremendous love and respect for her biological parents for sharing such an incredible human being with our family. And one of the most beautiful parts of being Amber’s mom has been honoring her biological mother, Lucy . I’ve prayed for her, talked to her in my spirit, and asked for guidance when I’ve had to make some of the biggest decisions concerning the daughter we share through love.
That part of our story has always been sacred to me.

So YES, today I am proudly saying HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my adopted daughter. My bonus daughter. My daughter who somehow ended up looking like she could actually be my biological twin, because apparently God has jokes too.

Amber, I am thankful that Lucy chose me to be part of your life, but even more thankful that God chose us for each other.

You are loved. You are chosen. You are family. Period.

May this birthday be your biggest, happiest, most blessed one yet. May God continue to cover you, guide you, protect you and give you everything your heart deserves.

And because I am still your mama no matter how beautiful this post is...
Stay out of trouble.
Happy Birthday, Amber. I love you forever.

PS her Birthday is the 22nd. Yesterday was hectic to post.
