Day 7 of Gyrotonic July is Pulsations/Biological Pump

Here Kinespirit Trainer Anna is demo-ing on the Gyrotonic Pulley Tower Unit. Pulsations/Biological Pump can be used as a prep for many series - it creates warmth and energy and establishes a rhythm that serves a baseline for a whole series. It also is an ideal ‘point of departure’ because it allows the mover to hone in on their center of gravity, the source of movement, referred to as the seed center in Gyrotonic.

Here’s what Anna has to say about Pulsations/Biological Pump:
“I LOVE PULSATIONS. The rippling pattern combined with heavier resistance gives my spine so much relief. To me, it’s the equivalent of ironing out my fascia like ironing out a wrinkled sheet.”

Thanks for your demo, Anna

Day 5 of Gyrotonic July is Sideways Ribcage Shift and Kinespirit Trainer Anna is demo-ing on the Gyrotonic Tower. The Sideways Ribcage Shift is one of the elemental spinal motions, the attempt is to differentiate the upper spine (thoracic) from the lower spine (lumbar), literally shifting the upper as far off the lower as possible. As much as it is about movement, it’s also about proprioception and learning to differentiate body parts. There is no sequential spinal articulation in this movement, but it is so mobilizing for that specific area of the body and creates an incredible feeing of ‘inner space’!
.
Here’s what Anna has to say:
“I have a short torso and so ribcage shift with the pole really helps me feel the separation between my upper and lower trunk. It feels so amazing to make more space in the waist”

Thanks for your demo, Anna!

🔥IT’S WORKSHOP TIME🔥

Join Anna @ahooperr for Merce Cunningham Technique! This is a modern dance form blending balletic leg positioning with strong torso movements. It emphasizes five spinal positions— upright, curved, arch, twist, and tilt —to move independently of the legs. This technique encourages dancers to work on spacial relationships and treats the music and dance as independent elements that coexist together. Feel free to sign up via MindBody!

Let’s venture back over to Kinespirit Circle for Day 8 of March MATness to show you Spine Stretch! The wonderful trainer Andrea is working with…oh my gosh, is that studio manager Anna? A celebrity sighting! Andrea is having Anna use the wall to keep her spine aligned, and coaching her to apply pressure into specific areas on her slow descent into her stretch. Excellent work, ladies!
